In December, The New York Times shared a panoramic view of William F. Buckley Jr.'s Formal Dining Room — this month, they've got Elaine Kaufman's living room. The proprietor of Elaine’s, the old school Upper East Side establishment for people watching, Kaufman has walls of books and loves to relax while watching Westerns...
We're especially fond of the artwork and the graphic upholstery of the large sectional. Be sure to check out the story, The Saloonkeeper’s Sanctum, and the addictive interactive panoramic image.

Wow... that place is spectacularly fug. The mirrored shelving... the bad 1980's southwestern motifs... the dark rugs... the puke-colored walls... this is easily the ugliest space I have ever seen featured in the Times.
It looks like a great place to read and relax or have good, long conversations with friends. It's a room with personality and history.
There are some spectacular items in there (Persian rugs, Tiffany pottery, Belle Epoque posters, modernist paintings), but the room itself sure doesn't make a good impression.
This proves that money can't buy good taste.
Bloated furniture can eat up a lot of space.
This is clearly the "Before" shot...
Where's John Wayne?
But I envy the square footage.
This is what I would expect from this old broad, she is one of the most influential women in Manhattan and does not need to impress but only in making it her own sanctuary. I would love to visit I am sure there are many treasures and great stories to be found.
She has been compared to as a Modern day Damon Runyon so this interior really looks like her.
Why on earth is it that every time I see a home/condo space in NY by anyone over the age of 40 that it looks like a flashback to the 70s or 80s? This is f'in terrible. It's like when that silly show Real Housewives of NY aired....all those women supposedly had money but their style and taste in their homes was atrocious. I see a lot of spaces in NY on various shows and in magazines that are really great...but 9 times out of 10 its a younger couple. If you're 40 and living in NY, it seems everything is laced in gold and gaudy in your home if you have money. What was that other show on E!...Gasteneau Girls....dear lord their place was trashy shabby. It was so terrible I couldn't watch it.
LittleRock, I think "Growing Up Gotti" pretty much summed up everything that is wrong with Long Island.
God awful.
The article that accompanied these photos explains that the living room is Elaine Kaufman's place to relax and unwind, and that she doesn't normally have people over.
"It’s all me. And mine.”
I think it's actually quite healthy.
The Oxygen bottles in the foyer are a nice touch for guests, Social Climbing can be such hard work...
there was a time when i would have thought it was beautiful - what was i thinking?
LittleRock - what an ignorant posting.
