This beautifully simple home was designed by Johnston Architects and dubbed the North Bend residence. LEED certified with a single slanted ceiling, the home is green from the ground up, beginning with wood that was "found."
Blown-down trees in the Washington area, where soft and moist soils lead to more frequent falling trees, were used in the siding, fascias and trim of this house. Energy comes from a ground source heat pump and solar water heater, and other green bits are found throughout.
