After 10 years located under the 59th street bridge, The Conran Shop is shutting that location and moving the whole show to ABC Home this April. We talked about this sort of thing happening with Sir Terence a few months back, but had no idea that they would close 59th street, even as he voiced interest in finding another more central location. Why? It seems that 59th street was too far off the beaten path. The whole press release is below.

The Conran Shop announces the relocation of its flagship

NYC store to ABC Carpet & Home

NEW YORK – December 23, 2009 – In April 2010, The Conran Shop will launch its anchor U.S. destination in an 8,500 square feet shop at ABC Carpet & Home, 888 Broadway and 19th street in Manhattan. The Conran Shop will be prominently located at the legendary home design destination.

"This is a very unique opportunity to become more accessible to our customers and collaborate with one of New York's most loved stores," says Emmanuel Plat, President of The Conran Shop.

In 2010, The Conran Shop will celebrate ten years of business with new, innovative offerings for a global clientele. This includes an Outdoor Living furniture collection and new additions to its popular Well Considered range of affordable household essentials. The Conran Shop will continue to offer beautiful products made to the highest quality standards and expand its selection of Design Classics and timeless furniture.

"Terence Conran and the Conran Shop have been an inspirational entrepreneur and retailer in our industry since the early days of ABC Home. Terence Conran's unique, passionate and fresh approach has been revolutionary," says Paulette Cole, CEO & Creative Director of ABC Home. "Conran continues to stay vital, curating state-of-the-art design. We are very enthusiastic about our alignment in creativity and eco-philosophy, with a recognition that the solution to a healthy planet starts at home. In his recently released ECO House Book, Conran states, 'There is a great deal we can do to convert our existing homes into greener, healthier places to live'. Conran's design and ABC Home's curation share a commitment to reflecting choice at the cutting edge of design, beauty and sustainability."

The Conran Shop will leave its Bridgemarket location at 1st Avenue and 59th Street, underneath the Queensboro Bridge, in March.
