You guys enjoyed checking out the workspaces of creative types in yesterday's post, so today we bring you a look inside the office of the president and creative director at J. Crew, Jenna Lyons.
Lyons' personal style has been well-documented - her home was one of the best featured in dearly-departed domino magazine. Her office space is covered in paper inspiration, artwork, and of course, racks of clothing. Some mid-century furniture is interspersed with brightly-colored modern pieces but interior design is not the focus here - it feels like Jenna's brain exploded all over these rooms, and it's fascinating to see the inner workings of one of our era's most active design talents.

Howard Butcher Bloc...
Ok. Now I know for sure she must have a maid/au pair/cleaner to pick up after her at home. Because there is no way a neat-freak would have an office like that...
I hope those super low waisted pants go out of style soon. They just don't look good on most women, including this lady.
I'm with you, Terry. Makes her hips look twice as wide as they actually are.
Yay! J Crew is my favorite clothing store and I was excited to see the stacks and boards of messy inspirational stuff.
ITA about the pants, too low on her.
Ditto. Love the inspiration wall. Hate the pants.
If my space was that messy I would be so distracted I would never get anything done!
Her desk is the Strut Table from Blu dot in Watermelon
OK, I love J Crew too, but I actually like the pants. High waisted pants make people look, bottom heavy.
I don't find anything inspirational about this space. I like inspiration boards, but this space has stuff ( putting it nicely) everywhere. I want to jump into the monitor and start cleaning.
Domino magazine (sniff, sniff) featured her home in an issue -- it was certainly much more inspiring, memorable and colorful than this office. I am surprised, but then again, who can argue with how one gets inspried?
It does remind me of my dorm room circa 1991. Just add a Bon Jovi poster and an Absolut ad in the center of her collage. I am fairly certain I was wearing big hair, round glasses, rolled pants and a blue blazer around that time too ;)
i'm with little be known re: the pants :-)
The clutter is certainly distracting, but as the article states, it's not about design but how a creative mind works and is inspired by its surroundings.
As an aside, I think it's not the waist, as it is the crotch of the pants that bother me. Much too low, but not enough to be considered drop crotch, giving the appearance of a 'full nappy'. How dreadful.
Sorry, this looks more like a hot mess! I don't know how someone could work in such a crazy environment!
This looks like a space where things happen. I'm sick of tidy, sterile work spaces cleaned up for a photo. Unrealistic and boring!
Why are you being so mean about the pants! She was kind enough to invite us into her office. Why so petty? I think the creative process is fascinating. I've seen Jenna's house featured on various blogs and while nice, it's too tidy for my personal taste. But this office is really cool! Thanks for sharing, Jenna.
