Ok about this. It doesn't save space because the appliances have to go somewhere, so if they go back into the wall 2 feet, why not just build the wall out 2 more feet and not have the built ins. It just takes up more space with the idea that it gives you more space.

I agree with the point that it would be a space saver...but the room is so big, it hardly seems necessary.

Haha, the comments...you've all cracked me up. Not disagreeing here other than the room is probably larger than it needs to be for illustrative purposes.

A lid is different than a seat bepsf-- girls and men who poop can't use this toilet. Or did i miss something?

maybe the seat multi-purposes as a throw pillow for couch!

This doesn't make any sense at all. The toilet and the sink all exist in the useable square footage of the space whether they retract or not. The only space being saved is the wall that would divide the bathroom from the rest of the room. Assuming you could build that out of 1/2" opaque glass sheets, you sacrifice all important privacy for a nearly nonexistent improvement in footage.

And let me tell you, the one thing you won't be using that extra space for is entertaining.

While I'm fortunate enough to not live in a one unit space, I do thing the idea is genius. Great in a spa bath. There are so many other applications. Frankly, I think a hideaway kitchen would be very cool. And an office.

I agree with those above - if the appliances have to go somewhere each time you need to use them, you might as well deduct that space from your space anyways, in which you could have just built a small bathroom.

I can imagine so many looks of horror as someone popped out a toilet to use since not only would the person have to use the bathroom in front of everyone, but everyone would be forced to watch.

Watch The Fifth Element again -- the fridge and shower essentially took up the space of a shower, but one moved up or down when he wanted to another. We never saw where the toilet and sink were but we were to figure it was in the same area as the shower/fridge. So even Bruce Willis had more privacy than this.
