The day after the launch party seemed like a really good time to be wandering around the city instead of sitting at our desk. And The Other Shop was one of our first stops.
The Other Shop is a small, unpretentious collective, with a focus on mid-century modern furniture and collectibles. It's the kind of store you want to visit often because they're constantly getting new items -- and there's no website, so you have to actually make the trek to check things out. It's also the kind of store where it's not easy to walk out empty-handed.
The store's motto is "Where you can still afford to collect." Because there are many different dealers, prices vary widely. Some are comparable to flea market or Craigslist prices, others are a bit more outrageous.
We saw a set of five Bertoia side chairs for $595, an Eames round table for $325, a Risom side chair for $145, a Barcelona chair for $765.

hi often window shop at the other shop, as i live around the corner. my best score there was a huge le creuset dutch oven (yellow) that was on sale for only $68.
recently i saw 2 of my parent's dining room chairs in the window (which at home are hardly used) for $500. so, to me that seems high...though they are a really great design. i'm hoping i get them in my dining room someday!
I've never been in here before. Looks great and similar to X21 on Valencia, but less expensive - thanks for the tip!
