Equus Pedestal Bowl, $450
If you're like us, when you hear the name "Lladró" you're likely to think of that store in the mall that sells those delicate, mutely-colored porcelain figurines, often of lithe ballerinas or adorable floppy eared puppies. Not our cup of tea. But we recently discovered that Lladró's collection has expanded and diversified to include modern takes on its creations by designers from around the world.
You probably still won't see us in the Lladró store any time soon (it's just not our style), but we're glad to see Lladró move beyond its ubiquitous mall image to something much more interesting and chic.

Love I-III (Blossoms), $600-$7000

Inside Out Box (Dog), $400

Inside Out Box (Man), $400

Cactus, $800-$850

Magic Forest Ring, $125
Check out the whole Lladró collection, new and old, here.

Except for the bird napkin ring - I still can't say I'm a fan...
Jaime Hayon is my hero! (one of my heros at least)

I like the napkin ring, I would like to see this bird on a branch with the same finsih and texture of the ring.
I do not like the others. I LOVE horses but that bowl freaks me out some.
Is the ring a *napkin* ring, or just a ring ring? I didn't see it say napkin anywhere, and just assumed it was jewelry.
I assumed it was jewelry, also.
They did a beaded-style curtain with butterflies (?) a few years ago, and a couple of chandeliers...both of which I LOVED.

I kind of thought I would be the only one who liked the bird ring and didn't like anything else. I'm not sure if I like it as jewelry though...
Nope.
I basically feel the same about the new Lladro as the old.
I like it ALL. I've been noticing Lladro incorporating more innovating designs. If only I could afford them...
wow, I went to the website and was blown away by at least 4 of the newer items. who knew?
That bowl reminds me of the fairy tale The Goose Girl, in which the princess's beloved talking horse, Falada, witnesses a servant blackmailing the princess into swapping identities. The servant has the horse's head cut off. The true princess asks for the head to be hung over the gate, where she talks to it. "Alas, dear Falada x3, there thou proppest up the bowl."
Oddly, although the head talks back, it never testifies on the princess's behalf.
If they make that horse-head bowl lifesize, I'll take two.
An excellent example of Decoratus Absurdum. Interesting stuff . . .

When design takes priority the result is often strange closets.
The horsebowl reminds me of a porcelain piece I saw at Schloss Nymphenburg's collection of several dogs attacking and munching on a cow...an odd and bloody choice for decoration.
