E-readers have come a long way and it's not uncommon to spot one or two being used by commuters on their way home. While the reading experience has improved significantly, especially when using devices with e-Ink displays, none of the devices on the market quite replicate the experience of reading the newspaper. The Page is one of the first e-reader concepts that comes quite close to capturing the newspaper reading experience.
The Page by Manny Darden, Jae Yeop Kim, and Scott Liao puts the convenience of e-reading tech into a device that invokes the feel of newspaper. Seeking to create an e-reader that would be familiar, classic, and adaptive, the designers have created a unique device that is surely the future of newspapers.
The Page makes use of a semi-transparent e-Ink screen to display images and text with great clarity even in outdoor lighting situations. This high tech device would include fingerprint recognition which is what allows the user to quickly log in for a personalized reading experience. The device is also quite flexible both in terms of construction and content. The Page can fold in a variety of ways, from folding away 6 inches to provide for an easier rush hour subway reading experience to folding in half so that the device can stand on its own providing for a hands-free reading experience. Like the physical construction of the device, content is also flexible, users can directly interact and alter content as if they are browsing the web.
We enjoy reading using our e-readers, but we do find that there is something missing from the reading experience when it comes to reading the newspaper on an electronic device. From the look of the images of this prototype we think that The Page could be just the device we are looking for. We love the aesthetic and flexibility of this device. We also love how it folds to provide a hands free reading experience, perfect for reading "the paper" during breakfast! Frankly, we think this device is pretty amazing and would love to own one.

This is one of those sci-fi devices I have been waiting for since childhood! My own version of the flying car.
While the display technology looks awesome, nobody wants it to be in a traditional newspaper size. That's aways been way too cumbersome. I've always hated having to fold a newspaper just to be able to comfortably read it.
All that is needed is a display about the size of an iPad.
Reading this I got the impression this was for real. After looking at the video, it's so obviously a poor CGI mock. The motion tracking is really amateurish. You can see the page shake while the type is static.
Unplugged, are you this gullible? Concept? This thing is really just pure fantasy. Technology is definitely not even close to producing anything like this now.
Hey, this thing looks familiar. Wait a minute...oh, I remember now. It's called a newspaper and there's not a thing wrong with it. Why is everyone so obsessed with fixing something that's not broken? Here's a radical idea: Why not just keep publishing newspapers on paper with ink? They're already easy to carry, fold, and read. I love modern technology but I believe the printed page can co-exist peacefully - and meaningfully - with the internet.
