Our first family vacation to the beach was a success. We're hardly pros but we learned much about efficient packing for a day spent on the beach digging holes and building sand castles. What's on our must-have list for next year?
This multi-use basket by Coleman. We think it's the perfect tote for all of those beach toys - buckets, sand molds, shovels of all sizes. The cylinder shape can handle even a longer shovel. And when it's naptime, wet and sandy toys go back in the tote, no problem. Just set it outside to dry in the sun. When not in use, the basket collapses down in to a compact bundle. Buy it here for $9.

Or you could use the Korall Fisk collapsible basket from IKEA for a couple bucks less ($6.99). It comes in blue or red, and you can choose to use the lid or not.

That's a great idea - wish I had thought of it! For our towels and nice stuff I use a Lands End Tote. But I like to keep our sand toys separate, so I use a small handheld laundry basket from Target. Because it is plastic, it is really sturdy and stands up on its own on the beach, in the sandbox or in the trunk of my car. It washes down easily. Sand easily shakes out the sides, but most of it gathers at the bottom so I don't have to worry about it all falling out in my car.
Best of all, I don't care about it in the slighest--perfect for messy kid stuff!
I don't know. I'd rather something that didn't take two hands to carry.
