Whether you read your horoscope every day or you don’t fully buy into the idea of astrology, it’s interesting to see what your sign says about your personality. And those traits may also be the key to a healthier, happier life.

Progress happens one step at a time. You need to start with something super doable — something so “you” that it becomes part of your new routine without even trying. To help, here are the major defining traits of the twelve Zodiac sun signs, and some healthy habits (fitness and otherwise) that match up.

Aries (March 21 – April 19)

Aries are born leaders, but they don’t always have the follow-through to stick with the projects they start. They’re charismatic and can easily get people together, not to mention bold, impulsive and always up for a challenge or some friendly competition.

Aries’ Healthy Habit: A great healthy way to channel your Aries traits? Use your charm and magnetism to get a group of close friends together for regular mental health check-ins. This can be through an ongoing group chat or in person meet-ups, whatever works best for all of you—just use your time together to talk openly about what’s going on in your lives and how you’re doing.

Taurus (April 20 – May 20)

Taurus is definitely the “treat yourself” sign—they love rewards, indulging, pretty things, and and feeling comfortable as often as possible. They’re on the materialistic side, and a little headstrong and stubborn, but they’re also extremely reliable and take a slow-and-steady pace.

Taurus’ Healthy Habit: If you’re a Taurus, combine your love of comfort and rewards by adding a little extra incentive into your fitness time—maybe going to the gym isn’t your favorite thing, and even though you do it, you dread it. Would knowing you’re in store for a little post-workout at-home spa treatment will get you through? Try leaving room in your exercise schedule for a face mask or a bubble bath afterwards, so it just becomes a part of your routine.

Gemini (May 21 – June 20)

Geminis have two opposing-yet-complementary sides: They’re imaginative, chatty and quick, but also practical and sometimes indecisive. They adapt well and can multitask with ease, and they’re incredibly curious with a lot of interests. They can be a little all over the place, but they always look at things from all sides and perspectives.

Gemini’s Healthy Habit: As a Gemini, you’re probably fascinated by—and dying to try—more things than you can keep track of. Rather than sign up for a standard gym membership, try a plan like ClassPass that lets you try different classes each month, or find a gym that offers a lot of different classes so you can change things up. Use the time you would normally do your usual fitness routine to try something new every time—you’ll get the same benefits while satisfying your natural curiosity.

Cancer (June 21 – July 22)

Cancers are often homebodies—they feel most at ease at home, and it can be really difficult to get them out of the house, despite the fact that they love spending time with friends and family. They’re all about tradition, are great at remembering even the smallest details, and are known for being kind and gentle (although they can be manipulative when they need to be). They’re also very sentimental and protective.

Cancer’s Healthy Habit: Since Cancers love to be home and are into all things serene, take advantage of that. In the morning—or before bed, whenever works best for your schedule and your mood—listen to music that calms you and do some light stretching to get your body going for the day (or unwind after a stressful one).

Leo (July 23 – August 22)

Leos love being the center of attention, and like Aries, have very magnetic personalities. They’re enthusiastic and dramatic, not to mention strong and powerful. They’re stubborn, but they’re also inspiring and warm-hearted. They have seemingly endless courage ambition, and love games (in the sports and gambling sort of way, not metaphorically).

Leo’s Healthy Habit: As a Leo, you’ll probably do well to turn your fitness routine into more of a game or a contest. If it’s feasible for your schedule to join a local or office-sponsored sports league, definitely sign up! But otherwise, technology is on your side—try using your love of games to your advantage by playing interactive sports and fitness video games. You’ll get up and moving and make it fun by competing with yourself, or other people online.

Virgo (August 23 – September 22)

Virgos are known by all for being perfectionists—they’re exact in just about everything that they do, and can often be too critical. But on the flip side, they’re also modest, reliable and fair, and have amazing attention to detail. Virgos care a lot about knowledge and are very grounded, and like Taurus, enjoy pretty things—they’re just extra picky about them.

Virgo’s Healthy Habit: If you’re a Virgo, you probably already have your routine down pat and don’t actually want to change anything about it. Since spontaneity isn’t always your thing, and you probably get caught up in doing everything on your to-do list—down to every last detail—try scheduling in some non-negotiable “me time” and use it to do something that either relaxes you or that you find fun. If it’s on your calendar, you’ll feel that same need to actually do it (and do it exactly right, at that).

Libra (September 23 – October 22)

Libras are all about balance and maintaining their relationships with others. They’re team players who love love, and they’re also very fair and objective. They love beautiful things and people, and know how to work a room and keep people at ease. They’re artistic, persuasive, and strong communicators. Libras are also big fans of nature and being outside.

Libra’s Healthy Habit: Libras have two major interests that can translate into easy healthy habits. First, for those fair-weather days, incorporate your love of the outdoors with an exercise you enjoy, or just simply go for a walk. And on those days when you’d rather be inside, try using your artistic nature by working on something crafty and channel any stressed out energy. Painting or completing a DIY project, for example, might be just the thing you need to unwind.

Scorpio (October 23 – November 21)

Scorpios are curious and intuitive, but also serious and intense. They also have an impressive ability to pick themselves up and start over even when things go wrong. Scorpios tend to be secretive, passionate and motivated, and while they can be vindictive, they’re generally super loyal. They also thrive on competition, and much like Leos, love games.

Scorpio’s Healthy Habit: As a Scorpio, you probably never shy away from a challenge, but finding others to compete with or play sports with isn’t always easy. Instead, compete with yourself a little bit—see if you can beat your own step counts from day to day, for example. Just don’t take it too far and only push yourself within reason—you’ll do more harm than good if you don’t pay attention to your body.

Sagittarius (November 22 – December 21)

Sagittarius is a sign that’s very much dedicated to knowledge and seeking the truth. They’re interested in philosophy, and like to explore and be informed. They’re also outspoken, optimistic, and enthusiastic—although they tend to procrastinate at times.

Sagittarius’ Healthy Habit: As a Sagittarius, you’re probably always feeling that thirst to learn more, and diving into that is totally a healthy habit to embrace—health doesn’t always have to be about fitness, and spending time learning definitely helps you better yourself. Make it a part of your routine by scheduling in plenty of reading time or signing up for an online class.

Capricorn (December 22 – January 19)

Capricorns are hardworking, ambitious, and all about achieving their goals. They care about being successful and are often very traditional and practical, but they also care about being polite and friendly. They’re careful and responsible, and while they don’t exactly flaunt their feelings, they’re very devoted to their loved ones.

Capricorn’s Healthy Habit: If you’re a Capricorn, take advantage of your drive to succeed by setting weekly goals for yourself. Those goals don’t necessarily have to be competitive like a Scorpio’s, but rather, just to give yourself something personal outside of the office to achieve and to strive toward—it can be exercise related if working out is something you want to work on, or they can just be life goals like trying something new.

Aquarius (January 20 – February 18)

Aquarius is a sign that cares deeply about social issues and doing things for the greater good. As creative intellectuals, they also care about being original and are great at coming up with new ideas—they’re always thinking. Aquarians also love technology and keep up with anything shiny and new.

Aquarius’ Healthy Habit: Since gadgets and originality are your thing, Aquarius, you might want to look into getting a fitness tracker to help you achieve your goals. Spend some time comparing trackers and apps to find one that has all the unique features you’re looking for. On the other hand, for a less exercise-oriented habit, use your love of making a difference to spend some time volunteering—you’ll help people and you’ll feel good about it, too.

Pisces (February 19 – March 20)

Pisces are dreamy, spiritual and intuitive. They tend to be laid back and compassionate, and like Aquarius, it’s important to them that they help others and give back. They often put others first and are both very romantic and modest. And not to be cliche (since Pisces is symbolized by two fish), but water usually helps them heal.

Pisces’ Healthy Habit: With your water sign in mind, Pisces, you would probably do well to incorporate more water into your routine—maybe that means switching your normal gym membership to one with a pool so you can easily add in a swim or a pool workout, or maybe it just means giving yourself plenty of relaxing time to soak and daydream.
