Here's another way to monitor your water usage in the bathroom: use a plugless sink! It's a modern take on the old traditional basin bowls. In order to get rid of the water in the sink, you have to tip it over. According to its designer Maja Ganszyniec, the act of manually tipping the sink over and dumping out the water makes us more aware of how much water we are using and throwing away...
We think it's a beautiful design, and we actually really like the concept and think it could work.

It does look beautiful. But with kids, I think most of the water will end up on the floor.
"Drainless" is the word you're looking for, I believe.
I'd be afraid of dropping the sink or chipping it, and it's not the type of thing you could run out to pick up a replacement at Target. Better idea to just put the stopper in a traditional sink to be mindful of how much water you're using.
I like it, very cool. I agree about not being kid friendly, though - that could be messy.

I think it's great! Beautiful, functional and how easy to clean! As for kids, a hundred years ago very small children were coping with water jugs, basins and thunder pots under their beds at night. We underestimate their abilities and cossett them so much.
It is very pretty, but I would worry about the condition of the wooden base having dirty water contacting it. Would it become a germ breeding ground? The wood does not look sealed, though it may just be the way it photographed.
Agreed, nice concept and nice to admire, but impractical and unhygienic. I could only imagine what shaving, brushing teeth and hair would do to that poor board! I'd always be concerned that the person(s) who washed before me maybe didn't do such a good job, then tipped the bowl with their grimy fingers. Also, the sink is likely only a fraction of total water consumed in a bathroom...so you'd only ever get a partial picture. Unless something similar was done with the toilet...
