Doors are no longer just doors with The Sliding Door Company, an innovative design company specializing in clean and contemporary clear, frosted, laminated or linen glass.
As their website says: Remember when a door was just a door? A slab of wood with hinges and handles? And a wall was just a wall? Permanent? Plaster and paint? Opaque? That was then.

The Sliding Door Company provides a contemporary and fresh alternative to traditional doors and walls -- perfect for loft spaces or an open apartment layout. The structures (room dividers, closet doors, wall slide doors, office partitions, and swing doors) can be moved to allow for more light or privacy or to create new space. The design is modern and durable with 5 mm thick tempered glass in aluminum frames, dust-free seals, and their exclusive locking and roller systems, which purportedly provide the "smoothest, quietest movement on the planet."
We love the look of these doors/walls and the way they filter light and create an open, airy feeling. There are showroom locations all around the US, including one in San Francisco. The website is a little vague on their pricing (saying the price range is "about half the cost of European-designed doors with the same level of quality), so we'd be curious to hear if anyone has had doors/walls installed, and what the experience was!

Nomade Express Slee...
You can get by without having to brace these for siesmac purposes to meet various codes in a residential application. For commercial applications you will see the bracing every six feet if there is not a dropped or 8' high ceiling and floor tracks are needed.
We asked TSDC for a quote on a small, three panel wall of doors. Their quote came in at $10,000. Our contractor later told us that The Sliding Door Company will not approach a job that is under $10,000.
And so, we had some custom doors built via Allwood Door Company at a fraction of the cost.
I don't agree with the above comment... call or go into their SF showroom and they can handle a job of any size.
I just installed closet doors from the Sliding Door Co in SF. I purchased four custom doors in the frosted glass with aluminum frames for an opening 138" x 88". Total cost $2500, doors arrived in ~10 weeks.
Installation took about four hours but was pretty easy -- anyone handy with a screwdriver should be able to figure it out. One bit of advice -- since the doors' weight is supported by the bottom track (they don't hang - the top track is more of a guide), you need to make sure the bottom track is level, especially over a long run. It took some adjusting b/c I laid the bottom track on top of carpet, but they look great now!
I'm very pleased with the quality. I tried to find other options for glass sliding doors like this, but the rest of the brands (european) were 4-10x more expensive and had much longer lead times.
Please note that all of the above information is not correct.

And by that I meant the contact information for The Sliding Door Company :)
I just had TSDC doors installed in my condo. I'm completely satisfied with the product, their timing and the service provided by their preferred installer in NYC.
I'm seriously considering them for my closet doors in NYC and glad to see a good experience with their contractor as well. Any other comments on TSDC in NYC?
