The Straw Balehaus

The Straw Balehaus

We shared the BowHaus with you earlier this week, so it seems only right to share the Balehaus with you today. Not exactly what you expect a straw bale house to look like, right?

The Balehaus, designed by White Design, currently resides on the campus of the University of Bath. And, like most examples of amazing sustainable modern architecture, we came across this beauty over at Jetson Green.

The Balehaus is an experiment. Built from panels made of straw and hemp (by Modcell), the house is being monitored in 30 second increments for thermal performance, air tightness, etc. At the end of the year, researchers will know just how efficient building with these panels really is.
