Love it or hate it (and I love it), the Togo Sofa by Michel Ducaroy for Ligne Roset is a classic of modern design, birthed in the mid-70s. Interestingly, it popped up three times during Dwell on Design — in two homes (a large one on the westside, a small space on the eastside) and front and center on the floor at the show, cloaked in a digital print by Cristian Zuzunaga. Check how it fits into each of these spaces — perhaps it can fit into yours.
- On the Westside, in a large home, tucked into a nook, it creates a comfy spot to escape to for reading a book or watching a movie, that's casual and warm in a large modern home. It's a natural for parties. (Beitcher Residence, designed by Warren Wagner / WS3 Architects)
- On the Eastside, it's the clean and simple centerpiece to a small home, inviting without being overwhelming, and balances a variety of textures from the smooth and polished floor to the rough textured wall. It's great for families with children; they can climb all over it or pull over the smaller pieces to make a fort! (Atwater Home, designed by Rebecca Rudolph / RST73)

Commercial Flour Sa...
*Sigh*
If only I could afford this couch, it's completely amazing and is completely my style (except for the price tag)
I love it, but can't afford it.
I would, though, be tempted to buy the knock-off, even though I HATE knock-offs.

Having spent part of my childhood in a house similart to the first picture, I can't stand to look at it. I didn't like it when I lived in it either. I am more of a traditionalist and always enjoyed visiting my grandmother's victorian home.
I have to place myself in the 'hate it' category. It's simply not something that appeals to me, although it is interesting.
I'm not a fan although it looks very comfortable. What I am a fan of is that table/stool. Does anyone know what tribe made designed that stool? I know it isn't Ashante...stumped!
I love the look, and the *thought* of lounging on a Togo. I'm all about a lounge vibe at home.
But I've never sat on one, so I don't know if I would actually find it comfortable. And if I did find it supremely comfortable, then I'd have to cry myself to sleep every night because there's no way I could afford one.
@modtramp - I did buy the, ahem, FauxGo from Alphaville you mention and it sits VERY firmly. But it's in my master bedroom, so prolonged sitting isn't an issue. It looks like the real thing.

@emmelemm - A real Togo is like God's own marshmallow. It's what St. Peter has in the waiting room.
Every time I see this thing I think: 1980s frat house.
Must be just me.
They look like heaven to sit in but I'm a confirmed horizontal sofa user and the preformed seat appears to make that an uncomfortable position. Since I can't afford to even think of owning one I guess it's a very moot thought. Love the look tho. Makes me want to snuggle in.
eh... I'm with unabridged on these couches. I prefer a more tailored look.
"God's own marshmallow," huh? Sounds pretty good.
I too am a horizontal sofa user - as in, I lie down. Are they good for lying down on?
"Every time I see this thing I think: 1980s frat house."
I can't imagine a 1980's frat house could ever have afforded a Togo, much less considered anything Ligne Roset for furniture.
1960's Faux-Colonial plaid Herculon with exposed wood trim and cigarette burns from the sidewalk/Salvation Army seems more 80's Frat-house to me.
So hate this look! Especially that "digital print" -- who could really live with such a busy strong pattern for any length of time, which you'd NEED to do, at that (ridiculous) price! Still, to each his own.
Ew I absolutely hate these, and I'm very open minded to strange furniture. I'm sure that they are very comfortable, but they look like very squishy and fat caterpillars. I wonder how many people love the look of them because of the price. Loving them because you have personally sat in them is one thing, and being able to look past the style, but I just can't get over it.
I also think the patterned one would make me sick looking at for too long. In my opinion, That sofa should never come in a pattern. Too busy and extreme already.
I cringe whenever I see picture of a Togo pushed up against a wall. Pull them out!
One of my life dreams is to have a house with enough room to incorporate Togos somewhere.
It's hideous. It's a classic the same way Superfly and Charlie's Angels are classics. Camp.
No thank you!
@bepsf
I think unabridged meant that the Togo looks like a glorified beanbag, not that it cost as much as one.
Nothing about this couch appeals to me. But different strokes for different folks!
I have a faux togo. it sits higher than the real thing. its firm, and it sucks to sleep on (ridges). it's also light, i can move it around pretty easily, but much heavier than the real deal. The real thing is so light you can throw it. I do love mine though. heres a peek.

I never noticed these until I saw the Celebrity Apprentice, where one of apartment makeovers had this sectional. I thought it looked like an oversized, overstuffed caterpillar. That first picture looks like they accidentally attached the cushions to the back of the sofa.
bepsf: "1960's Faux-Colonial plaid Herculon with exposed wood trim... " Ha ha! That was my first sofa! I got it for free, of course.
Yes I have always dreamed of this sofa in off white for my dream beach house that faces the ocean. I think the Tonga sofa is the ultimate in comfort chic.
I remember the first time this sofa in 1982 I was in Rome and staying in this beautiful apartment that had a Tonga two-seater in a colorful floral print and with very traditional pieces and thinking wow that is too cool.
Fell in love with Togo when I was 8 or 9, and swore it would be my sofa when I had my own place, and it was (same anthracite grey as in 2 and 3).
After 20 years, we are now on our second set, this time in red (my husband's pick; he loves it just as much as I do).
Still love it after over 30 years!!
And it is deliciously, sinfully, decadently comfortable...
We have a set. They are great. Maybe because we have it in grey, but it doesn't look that odd or radical.
Anyone considering should make sure to get it in leather or alcantara (i.e. ultrasuede).
