The TV Room: Great Examples from This Year's Entries

Don't get me wrong, Room for Color is primarily a vibrant showcase of interiors proudly embracing color throughout the home. But I also love our annual ode to color for another opportunity: to study how other people incorporate and layout furnishings within their spaces, including and specifically, large screen displays. Here are some of my favorite examples where the TV is tuned into the rest of the room and the lives of its occupants...

Kelly's "Cheery Rainbow" Room:
I would have never thought of using a pull down map as the background for a television, but I have to admit I'm charmed by this unusual juxtaposition between display and cartographic items on display here.

Michelle's "Eclectic Electric Blue" Room
It's quite obvious Michelle and boyfriend share a love for their music and movies. Their vast media collection is organized by color, and even the fireplace is utilized to house a cache of vinyl. If you're going to keep LPs, CDs, and DVDs out in the open, this is how to embrace it!

Shannon's "Modern, Light & Bright" Room
She wanted to keep the room's walls "light and neutral", and the same ideal was extended out to Shannon's streamlined and minimalist HDTV setup. No cords or cables visible, wall mounted, with a floating media cabinet hiding all the connected components.

There's a lot going on and around this living room wall, with an assortment of artwork, frames, and signage redirecting the eye away from the HDTV display sitting on top of the fireplace mantle. Sometimes the only place for a display is above the fireplace, but this room shows how to ease it away from being a dominating focal point.
