This story of one family's enterprising efforts to make a profit on Madonna's childhood home is a great lesson in the volatility of real estate. …
When the Andres family saw that the Ciccone family's home was going up for sale back in September of 2001, they recognized an opportunity to make a few bucks. After purchasing the house and putting it up for auction on ebay (then still in its infancy), they watched as the bids started to top one million dollars. With appearances on local and national news shows, they were sure they were going to clean up with the sale of the house. And then ... well, we don't want to ruin the ending for you. I can't understand what would be so special about owning this house. So Madonna grew up there, big deal .. it's not "her" home anymore. It wouldn't be like visiting Graceland (which I don't care about either, and I live in Memphis, hahaha) Then again, I don't understand the fascination some people have with owning any sort of celebrity memorabilia.
Nice family that tried to sell the house.....but Madonna's first house; must be a slow news day. Or put it this way: If it had not been Madonna's home but the home of "John Smith" would it had made the news? Just a thought
No offense against Apartment Therapy! I just meant it must have been a slow news day for CNN that day. Apartment therapy rocks!!!
What's tragic is that it 'caught' on fire. But why didn't they sell at the 1 million dollar price? Greed?
The getting rich quick usually doesn't pan out but I'm glad they didn't lose their shirts on this one. They made 50,000.00. Lesson learned.
@ Lyonstill... I think because it was an ebay auction, the final date/ final sale was set for late September.
You can't just end the auction because you got a bid you liked. Not like just selling a house with a realtor.
It looks like a nice house and I like that it has lots of free space all around. I would have fixed it and lived there myself.
