Stairs to some, outdoor space to others — however you refer to your stoop, it's a great opportunity for a little gardening. A few pots — flowers, herbs or even vegetables — can give the most basic set of stairs great curb appeal.
Stoop planters are a great way to add green when you don't have any outdoor space. One on each side of the door helps define the entry: pots on each step provide a lush look and abundant greenery. Here are some great ideas and inspiration for how to decorate and maximize your stoop's potential.

3, 5, and 7 are beautiful, the rest look bit trashy. My partner is plant crazy and would cover every flat surface if he could. The one rule I have is that the plant has to be healthy looking (no half yellow the other half dead leaves) and in an appropriate pot. If a plant isn’t reviving after a week, it isn’t going to.
Really beautiful. I decorate our place with stuff like this, but we need a fence for the jerks who put out their cigarettes, or more commonly toss trash in them or even dog poo. Anyone else have that problem? I want to nail them for tresspassing but I have to catch them first.
However those incidents are rare in our region and there are even studies which show that flowers and plants reduce crime. I find it to be true. In the height of summer when our garden is very clean and neat, we have almost no trash or vandalism.
Some of those are pretty, some look neglected a bit, but I like the idea. Im sorry Emmi that people do stupid things like that. We have a planter outside of our building with flowers and people are always putting out their cigs in it. I'm like, if you wanna smoke that's your deal, but don't make it mine by littering!
I've had so many planter stolen from my stoop, I can really understand not investing in anything really fancy. But a little bit of greenery really brightens things up. I've copied a friend's innovation of running coated wire (from the hardware store) through each pot and lining them with bricks at the bottom. That way thieves would have to take the whole bunch -- far more difficult for them.
@Mrsberg isn't that awful? We want to get a fence but it's too expensive right now. In our area where there is a problem with speeding, some people have put up signs saying, "Slow down! Our children play here"! Or something like that. I think that may be a good solution.
We have a concrete front yard, and a big storefront window. I went so far as to build an 800lbs planter box, to try to a.) keep people from peeing, loitering and/or looking in our window and b.) to keep people from stealing the planted pots off my front step. They still come and steal my plants they just now come and dig them out. Last week I had tulips cut. I have also found many a cigarette butt, beer bottles, coffee cups, mcdonalds bags and other assorted litter my planter/front doorway. I just wish people would have a bit more respect.
