The fifth annual Wired Store has opened for the holiday season and wants to help you create your holiday wish list. Featuring some of the most exciting products in technology and design, the Wired Store is a very fun place to peruse and get inspired. With price points from $10 to over $5000, big name brands and Etsy artisans there is something for almost every budget and style to be found here.
Keeping a familiar design from last year, the store was divided into different experiences. Each experience was either centered around a different area of the home or an activity, popular experiences included the kitchen and gaming. The experiences made it easy to not only locate gifts that would be perfect for the outdoor or high design lover, they also provided a way to experience the products in a home-like setting with various home theater setups located in the store.
Having a seat in one of the home theater experiences while sipping a complimentary Arizona green tea (there are two refrigerators full of complimentary drinks at the store, one containing Arizona beverages and the other Cafe Bustelo energy drinks) we were blown away by just how gorgeous Star Trek looked. The movie is being shown on an LG 47- inch full HD 1080p LCD TV that is paired with LG's BD-390 Blu-ray disc player and the effect is stunning. We are not sure we noticed the sweat on our favorite Enterprise engineer while watching the film in IMAX, but we certainly noticed it here.
We at Unplggd were pleased to see and play with some of the products that we have talked about on our site. These included the Minty Boost from Adafruit Industries, the Woodtec Dual Docking Station and Joey Roth Ceramic Speakers. Walking around the store felt at times like walking around a brick and mortar version of Unplggd, with the exception of course that should it have been a brick and mortar Unplggd there would have been a lot more Macs around. The store was also a great place to learn about new products like Kapitall, a new online investing tool (which was running on the only Apple in the store, a MacBook).
In addition to serving as a place to inspire wish list additions, the Wired Store is also hosting several events, these include Game Day Sundays and a Photo and Video clinic with The North Face Expedition Photographer Jimmy Chin and Videographer Renan Ozturk.
As in the case with the previous incarnations of the Wired Store, items that you purchase in the store do not go home with you (with the exception of the Wired merchandise). Items are purchased online at the kiosks that are located in the store and are then shipped to you. Of course, you can also purchase any of the items from your home since the actual purchasing is done through the online Wired Store.
