If there's one room in the house where you can get away with a theme, it's your child's room where playfulness and whimsicality are right at home. We see many themed rooms throughout the year - some parents go all out with a bold, obvious theme while others chose to make a more subdued nod to a point of inspiration. Here are ten standout themed rooms from 2012 to revisit:
• Jude's Nautical Big Boy Room
• Sacha's Whale of a Room
• Quinlan's Sky of Blue and Sea of Green
• The Geekiest Kid's Room in the Universe
• Victor's Atomic Alien Invasion
• Henry's Happy Robot Room
• Gabe: The Tiny British Gentleman
• Ivy's Modern Matryoshka Room
• Baby Iggy's Groovy Sci-Fi Room
• Teddy's Little Man Room

Would love to see more posts with non-highly gender specific older-than-crib age kids rooms. Parents of babes don't have to contend with millions of toy pieces from dozens of different sets, board games, random bits of effluvia the kid brings in, schoolwork, baseball cards, crossword puzzles, library books, etc. ; ) Ideas??
TARDIS door. All I can see is the TARDIS door and I want it.
Oh my god, if I see one more hyper-modern, gray-walled nursery I am going to scream.
My favorites are #1 and #5 (I'm not sure if #5 counts as "hyper-modern, gray-walled"... but it has space ships!!). #5 I like especially since it looks professional and whimsical at the same time (maybe more at home in an office space -- but that's what nurseries often turn into right...)
#1 seems to be non-highly gender specific, older-than-crib age, with decent storage in the hull of the ship (and I see some dressers around). That said, the room looks fairly clean (either because it was cleaned before the shoot or it is constantly maintained). I'm not sure if there's a great solution to kid's messes than just finding a place to dump them in (e.g., in the hull of the ship). In general, I think you want it to be noticeable if your kids make a mess so (1) no one trips over their toys and (2) you can tell your kids [if they are of age] to clean up after themselves.

I think all of them are sweet, some are whimsical and the rest are just down right fun.
I'm concerned with the shelf over the baby's crib but I live in earthquake country so that's always an issue with shelving over beds and sofas.
