Kids love building things (see: LEGO). Now, they can build their own furniture, too.

Seoul design firm G280 Studio sees room for children to express creativity, and the TONITURE furniture line which encourages kids to use their imagination. TONITURE – a colorful combination of the words "toy" and "furniture" – takes its inspiration from Meccano toy kits. With the units, kids can literally construct their own furniture.

According to the designers, children using the TONITURE set can produce "desks, chairs, and shelves with fixed by bolts and nuts." Instead of tiny, intricate pieces that are typically required to assemble furniture, this kid-friendly form of home decor can be easily pulled together with large, high density fiberboard and steel pieces that don't need tools. If the young builders need direction with their modular projects, the furniture comes with a handy guide to help shape their ideas.

Overall, the Korea-based design studio's main focus is to enhance the connection between the individual and the object they are assembling. In addition to creating something functional and stylish, G280 wants to highlight the "relationship between object and human, and examine the possibilities of this relationship. It is a way to engage the user in the production process and develop the new meaning of the object."

Among G280 Studio's other child-themed designs are La Strana Storia or The Strange Story, a wooden puzzle comprised of eleven different animal figures and an accompanying toy book; and the food-inspired La Pasta Storia, a kid-friendly cooking kit containing a collection of whimsical characters made out of pasta designed to help strengthen communication between parent and child while they prepare meals together.
