Q: I'm in love with the kids' Jenny lind bed at Land of Nod, but not the price. Are there any cheaper versions of the bed, or possible DIYs of it?

There are a ton of these beds in my area listed on Craigslist for $100 or so. Search "jenny lind" or "antique bed" and I'm sure you'll get some hits. I plan on purchasing one of these for my daughters big girl bed, sanding it down and painting the color of my choice. Good Luck!
Great question. I, too, am in love with this bed, but not the price tag.
I think these beds are really sweet but I wouldn't save any money in my area trying to buy a used or vintage bed and painting it.
yes just saw going to say I just saw one on craigslist too. seller wanted $250 which I thought was too high for second hand but they are adorable.
Sears sells a Jenny Lind bed footboard/headboard for $160, you could paint it. I also had one similar to these years ago that I got at an antique/junk store and painted.
We ended up getting a Jenny Lind from Land of Nod. I wanted an antique, but the sizing is inconsistent, and I read they usually require a custom-made mattress because a standard twin doesn't fit. If you do get lucky and find an antique, make sure the measurements are ok! Or, if you're up for the splurge, the Land of Nod bed is such great quality. We're really pleased with ours.
I live in a rural area and I found a solid wood antique one on Craigslist for $20 a few years ago and painted it. It turned out swell. A few years and another little girl later, I wanted another so my girls could have matching twin Jenny Lind beds. I debated the Sears option and the Land of Nod version, but I was diligent about watching Craigslist (for about three months) and low, and behold, I found the EXACT SAME Jenny Lind style twin bed as my first $20 bargain! This time they wouldn't go below $90, but hey, I got a set for less than the price of one new. Both are about 40-60 years old and I haven't had any problem with mattresses, both measure out as a standard twin and have held up very well.
Estate sales are a good resource too.
If you have a large antique dealer/antique mall near you, describe what you are looking for to the person in charge and he/she will you a call you if a Jenny Lind style bed comes in, or contact their "peeps" to try and find one for you. Make sure you include what you are willing to pay, and they might do the haggling for you.
Good luck!
I've been searching Craigslist for months for my girls, but no such luck. I finally found some at Target online and they just came today actually! They are on sale right now for $139.99 with free shipping. They're white, but you can certainly paint them.

Target has Jenny Lind twin size beds online for $140!
I got the Land of Nod one and I have to say, none of us were happy with it. My daughter was 2.5 when we got it, so still pretty small and it sits very far up off the floor (to be able to fit a trundle underneath). This is great if you want to store a lot under the bed but it was really tough for her to climb into bed and also was higher than our grown-up bed. When our younger daughter started to climb, it became terrifying to have this bed because she could get up there but not down and could have had a very bad fall if someone wasn't always watching her. We had the guardrail and I removed it when my older daughter was about 4 but she was too scared to sleep in it without it so back it went. The bed is beautifully crafted but we had the white-glove set-up and even so it was always kinda creaky. That bothered me a lot. It never felt comfortable. We ended up switching to the cheap IKEA Malm twin bed and everyone was much happier -- it's way more comfortable, not creaky at all and sits low to the ground. I wish we done that in the first place and saved a bundle! The old one is just sitting in our basement...
I found an old OLD Jenny Lind style bed on Craiglist and painted it! It turned out GREAT! There is a tutorial here: http://www.pecklife.com/blog/2012/02/jenny-lind-bed-makeover.html
