LEGO blocks have been inspiring children (and adults—even legendary artist Ai Wei Wei uses the bricks) to bring their ideas to life for generations. Now, with the help of this new adhesive tape, where you build can be as creative as what you build.
Created by Cape Town-based design studio Nimuno, Loops is reusable, cuttable, and the only adhesive tape ever to be compatible with LEGO components. The material is flexible, so it can wrap around corners, bend to curved surfaces, and generally turn anything into a base for LEGO creations. It also comes right off when it's time to clear the toys from the wall (or counter, floor, bathtub, staircase, younger sibling).
"We at Nimuno have spent our lives building and creating using LEGO," the studio wrote on its Indiegogo page. "As professional designers, we see the creative potential it offers people young and old. In fact, we liked LEGO so much that we wanted to find a way to bring it to everyday surfaces."
In addition to LEGO, the tape is also compatible with Mega Bloks, Kreo and most major toy building block systems.
Loops is currently in a prototype stage, hence the Indiegogo campaign. Though I wouldn't worry too much—it's already smashed past its $8,000 funding goal and has currently raised over $630,000 from over 17,800 backers at press time with a month still to go.
And it's affordable: You can currently pre-order two rolls (a meter in length each) for $11 plus shipping. Loops is available in red, blue, green, and grey, and is estimated to start shipping to backers this July.
