Your space looks pretty close to awesome...except for the butt ugly ceiling fixture that's a literally glaring reminder that you rent. Yup, you could swap it out for something new but why not save time and money and transform it into something cool and modern and fabulous? Plus, it's easy enough that even I can do it.
The wonderful Isabell Larue of Engineer Your Space has designed a drum shade that'll fit right over your existing ugly light fixture. Plus it doesn't need an electrician or any electrical skills! Pick up what you need on your lunch hour or on your way home from work today and you can have a great looking new light fixture for your space with a minimal amount of work tomorrow morning, in time to have people over tomorrow night and enjoy all Sunday.

all the tutorials on that site are dead =(
same symptoms as the videos here at AT
lame. And no, I don't have problems with video on other sites at all
they all worked for me - i'm using chrome
Just watched the entire video and it was fine. Great site. Her instructions were excellent and I loved that she used common items for the project....paper clips, for example.
Wow! So simple, but lots of impact. Will definitely (eventually) try this.
Great video with super detailed instructions!
she says to leave enough room to eliminate a fire hazard, but who actually knows what clearances you need from the light fixture to combustables??
is it 2" clearance or 10" ??
it just sounds too flammable to me
The videos work for me too (Firefox 6.0.2). And she does an excellent job. The secret is to use fluorescent bulbs. The 1/8" at the top is sufficient to dissapate what little heat they throw off.
work fine for me, too.
lisa, sometimes emptying the cache of your browser helps - or changing browsers. when so many people have no trouble with the videos, it probably is a problem of your computer and / or your browser/OS combo.
