This Weekend: Expand Your Pattern Possibilities With DIY Stencils

Do you dream of surrounding yourself with more painted-on patterns in your home? Walls, floors, ceilings, furniture — every surface is a potential explosion of shape and color for someone who loves design. This weekend, expand your pattern possibilities by learning how to design, make, and use your own stencils.

This Weekend's Assignment:

Make your own stencil to create a cool pattern for your walls, furniture and more

Give someone a pattern idea, and they'll have a pattern for one project. Teach someone how to design a pattern and create their own stencil, and they'll have a world of pattern possibilities open to them for the rest of time. We've got the skills you need to pattern like a pro and master making a stencil with the tutorial below:

This weekend, consider picking a small project you can practice stenciling on so you have a reason to DIY your own stencil. Whether that's a small throw pillow, your coffee table or perhaps even a blank spot on a wall. Then, use the above tutorial to design and create your own stencil. Not only can you customize the look of this project with any color, you'll be able to use this same stencil again in the future, bringing more pattern (and a cohesive look) to the rest of your place any time you want.

Remember, as with all of our Weekend Projects, just do what you have the time and energy to do!
