Look!: Mosaiced Three Tiered Drinking Fountain

There are a few reasons we think this drinking fountain is great. The mosaic work is certainly one of them; we're big fans of public art of any kind, and this is colorful fountain really brightened up our day when we ran across it in a park. We also love the three levels - adult, child (and we suspect, ADA compliant,) and dog. Brilliant.

What do you think about public mosaic work like this? Fun and colorful, or better left undone?

I love it and wish this world had more colour. Also, it is obviously inspired in Gaudí's Parc Güell

This is in GG park, no? I think I run by it all the time.

I think it's fun - very quirky, a lot like the park and many of those who use it.

It looks great in its location, too - it really stands out.

It's actually in the park in the middle of Stinson Beach village (in West Marin) - but I'd love to see other similar ones!

I think it's great (both the color and design). Most of the parks around my house are either removing the water fountains or they don't work which can be a bummer. I took the dog for a long walk around the neighborhood last summer and decided to swing through the closest park to cool down and give the dog a drink. There were no fountains and he kept trying to drink out of the mud puddles around the pool (which is potentially really nasty).

I love mosaics. I love this fountain. It makes me want to run out and start mosaicing things.

Unadorned, it's rather plain and utilitarian, we have a similar one on our street. It's great for the animals, not just the dogs, but the wild birds stop by for a drink or a bath in the lowest one. They just love it.

And it couldn't be a better idea for people AND animals, as so many people take their dogs running around Lake Merced. I used to see professional dog walkers using the lake too, because it HAS that kind of fountain and there's so much for the dogs to sniff and pee on. Ha!

As far as public mosaics, I definitely prefer them over graffiti. I had taken the bus to a doctor's appointment, and walked by a mosaic wall, that had mirrored pieces incorporated into it.

Near Golden Gate Park, on 19th around Irving? I loved the colors and the way the mirrored portions flashed light. I certainly would not mind having that art to look out upon instead of the usual side of a commercial building.

There was also a small flower box, that I wished I had my camera to take a picture for you. I don't know what the flowers were, but they demanded to be admired, and so I did.

It was nice to see someone take the time to make something out of their front yard, which consisted solely of a small planter that was maybe 6" x 24" that was permanent and ran along their tiny driveway.

Those small things bring joy to everyone.
