Thrifty decorators often frame everything from wrapping paper to notecards, turning unexpected items into easy, affordable artwork. While it might not be a novel idea, this lovely space from Houzz reminds me of why it's a good one.
I recognized the paper almost immediately as Paper Source's popular Yuzen Plum Blossom Decorative Paper. Here, interior designer Amanda L. Reid uses clean white frames, making the blossoms pop off the walls while tying together the streamllined Parsons desk, vintage chairs, and urn lamp. The mix is classic and sophisticated — pretty impressive considering the paper retails for $8.

How about framing pieces of fabric and let the edges ravel a bit?
Love it - been doing this for years. One of the best thrifty ideas!
I use wallpaper samples to line shelves.... it's good and sturdy so is great for drawer liners as well. http://annabelvita.com/what-to-do-with-samples-of-wallpaper-you-cant
Any suggestions for finding cheap framing places? I paid $100+ for my last framing job (granted, it was an oil painting) even after choosing the most basic, cheapest frame. I did this at one of the cheapo frame shops. Am I going to the right place? I was shocked it was so expensive given the cheap material I chose.
How much would it cost to frame a picture as shown above?
@ArchDarling - not sure if this will help, but I buy cheap fabric or paper and I scour Goodwill for the right size frame. I've found several frames with mats in great condition for under $10.
I think those of us who are creative have truly been blessed. Between "re-doing" furniture and creative (thrift store) shopping, I think the only thing purchased new in my whole apt is my dining set, and now its about 15 years old. (I believe in getting my money's worth, Ha ha!) It still looks good to me, and when I get tired of the look, it will get a set of new chair covers and/or tablecloth, and I'll still be ahead of the game!! So smart me!
I'm not trying to insult anyone...but,am I gloating? Yes I am!
@ArchDarling - I would suggest Aaron Brothers or some place like that - buy a cheap pre-fab frame and mat, and cut the paper to fit.
