"down the shore"
For the Non-Jerseyans, going anywhere along the coast of New Jersey to enjoy the sand, the water and the peace. . .
The Diving Belle
I love driving up the PCH to Malibu for yummy fish tacos, the beach and some great succulent/garden shopping.
The Catskills.
Chesapeake Bay! Beautiful views and great seafood!
mountains in either Western Maryland or West Virginia
I enjoy scooting up to my old college haunts in seacoast New Hampshire... walking the gardens on the waterfront in Portsmouth, eating at the Friendly Toast, and catching a smoky local band at the Brick House in Dover, followed up by a jaunt to the Barley Pub for a brew!
Mom's house in the suburbs!
Disneyland is my favorite getaway. It's my home away from home for sure. I feel like a kid again.
Manresa State Beach campground.
Joshua Tree! Perfect for de-stressing.
Apostle Islands, WI. The Brule River is like a scene out of the river to go canoeing down and Madeline Island is picturesque and quaint!
oops....meant scene out of a *movie*
my fav "weekend getaway" is actually just staying at home with a supply of favorite snacks and a pile of DVDs. No looking at the computer or answering phones allowed.
Cambria... the perfect little sleepy beach town with not a lot to do, lots of beautiful and inspiring scenery, secret trails, elephant seals, cool, crisp weather...
My favorite getaway spot is Green Valley Lake - it's on the way to Big Bear in California. It's a small quiet town with a gorgeous lake and cheap cabin rentals.
San Francisco!
My parent's farm. The kids can run wild, I can visit relatives in their tiny town, or not, and just relax and get away from our own daily city grind. Somehow doing dishes for mom is a lot easier than doing my own.
Westport, CA in Mendocino county. There's a wonderful B&B right on the beach, that the owner handbuilt. It's perfect!
Roan Mountain, TN
The Oregon coast! Even in the winter it's beautiful and fairly temperate. And in the summer, it's perfect.
Algarve in Portugal!
for the floridians...cocoa beach, fl or pretty much anywhere along the coast
Northern Ontario. Nothing but clean and quiet wilderness.
BIG SUR! No other words needed. Best spot in Califas
Corny, but my grandparents house in Ventura... quiet, near hikes in the mountains, feels like summer vacation when I was a kid.
NYC - though we're only about 45mins away, it's nice to actually spend a whole weekend in the City instead of just going in for the day or night -- you get to enjoy it so much more not having to worry about 'getting back'.
home. because i don't get to spend nearly enough time there!

Palm Springs! And Korakia, more specifically.
San Carlos, Mexico. Still relatively unspoiled, especially after the atrocious ClubMed went belly up.
When I lived in Germany, I would drive (from Munich) to my family's house in Fieberbrunn, Austria, in the Tirolean alps. A two hour drive from Munich, the house is at the base of a mountain overlooking a beautiful green country-side in the summer. In the winter, we were steps from catching a lift to ski all day. Too bad I now live in NYC or i'd be heading there every Friday afternoon. Does this still count as a weekend getaway spot?
downtown Long Beach- I take the bus, catch an early matinee, then meander down to Auld Dubliner for a pint of cider. After that, I get lost in all the boutiques, where I get design inspiration for my apartment and spending fever for myself!
A hotel room anywhere, with a king sized bed, pool, and HBO.
New Hope, PA
Minneapolis used to be my weekend getaway but then I moved there. I love going to northern Minnesota on one of the many lakes -its very peaceful.

The family "camp" house on Lake Champlain in VT!
Santa Barbara!
Colony Palms Hotel in Palm Springs!
Mendocino coast--there's a secret cove that only locals know. You can hide there, look out at the wild sea and imagine yourself in an earlier time. Magical!
A drive north to San Francisco. I visit family and friends, shop in the many unique stores, and enjoy how clean the city is!
As Parents: Disneyland!! We have 2 daughters and they LOVE it and so we love it too! =D
As a couple: La Jolla. listen to the crashing waves and feel the sea breeze.
Central Park in NYC!
18th Street in Del Mar. Surf, sand and sun!

Avila Beach, California.
A tiny, lovely, no-pressure weekend away. Easy trip from LA!
Driving up PCH to Pismo Beach!
Kalama Beach, Hawaii. Such a quiet beach. Great waves for body boarding.

I love driving up to Ventura and hitting the thrift stores and antique shops.
With 3 kids, just going grocery shopping alone feels like a 'getaway' for me!

Anywhere out of the city.
I love la quinta in palm springs. They have a grass tennis court, which is incredibly difficult to play on, and little swimming pools everywhere.
My own home with nothing scheduled to do.
San Juan Islands.
Santa Barbara. It is such a getaway from the smog and traffic of LA. I love driving into the vineyards on the curvy mountain roads. Downtown SB is fun, yet laid back and relaxing. I can't wait to go back.
San Francisco. Lets me pretend that I live there during the week, too.
shenandoah!
The sleepy little town of Covode, PA.
My newly renovated home is my favorite weekend escape. With traffic, high gas prices and carbon fuel emissions, why go anywhere else?

Sanibel Island, Florida
Stoney Lake, Ontario.
Solvang, CA.. the cutest little Danish town!
Catalina is our definite get away spot....especially on the weekends we can dance in the ballroom!
Joshua Tree in August at Ryan Campground... sleeping under the stars and rock scrambling on Geology Road Tour. Its so quite and serene, going back to the city is usually torturous.
The ocean
Lately, it's been Phoenix. Best part is, when you come back to LA you appreciate the weather a lot more -- even on the "hot" days.
Acadia National Park!
Yosemite
topanga, malibu, and then ohai is a great, nearby, little-bit-of-everything weekend getaway from LA.
Cedar Point
Philadelphia with my daughter, cool shops and great restaurants
Monterey, California. Love the aquarium, the lazy coast town feel & the great biking nearby!
My freshly made bed with a book!
Eugene, OR -- I live in Corvallis (about an hour away) and I go there often to visit my family (my mom, sister, and brother all live there). It's bigger than Corvallis, so it's also a good place to shop.
The beach!
Great!!!
A friends beachhouse on lake michigan--friends, cold white wine and grilled burgers.

bainbridge island!
The Texas coast.
Since I don't live in downtown LA (yet), I love coming into the city and spending the weekend eating good food and meeting up with friends.
My favorite getaway is near my choldhood home. Neither a State Park nor terribly polular place, Seeger Natural Area, between State College and Huntingdon Pennsylvania, is a lovely lush forest with Hemlocks and ferns... with a wild undergrowth of gigantic rhodenderon. In June, it is one of the most powerful images of serenity I have ever encountered.
Big Sur
Bisbee AZ
My favorite weekend getaway spot is right here in Corpus christi Texas. Since we are but a few paces away from the water, it's fun just hanging out at the water with our kids. Pack a lunch, bring plenty of water and juice and we've got the whole weekend taken :)
San Francisco!
anywhere but home
Jadehunting at Willow Creek, Big Sur
Cooperstown, NY. We're both big baseball fans, so we love hitting the Hall of Fame, but it's also a nice quiet little town. Lots of nature, some Bed & Breakfasts to stay at.

My back door, camping in the Big Horn Mtns!
I love driving the PCH to Malibu and buying ice cream along the way. It reminds me of when I was a kid and we would do that with my dad, who built some of the buildings and homes in Malibu. Then I end up in Thousand Oaks, where I went to high school, and visit my school friends and talk about the good old days.
The dog park! it's a weekly tradition that's good for my dog and good for the soul. You can't spend 5 minutes at the dog park with out smiling and laughing at all the cute and crazy dogs!
On our way to Laurel Canyon now :)

Table Rock State Park, SC
breathtaking :)
really it is vegas anytime, but also love going and driving to the moluntains and hanging out with a cooler and tent fishing the weekend away
OK, this is going to sound harsh, but it is not meant that way. My favorite place for a getaway is anywhere that my husband IS and my kids are NOT. I am a stay-at-home mom of three children who are all under the age of three, and I never, never, never have a moment to myself. So a favorite "getaway" for me would be to stay at home with my hubby (wink wink), and have a sitter come take my kids.
There is a lovely state park about 10 miles away. We love to go there for a few hours, or a weekend when time allows.
our bedroom....need i say more
The mall.
give me a winery any winery. any really with half way decent wines. really.
Bloomington, IN
We rarely get away on the weekends with 3 small children, but about 4 times a year my husband and I love to travel to Penn Yan, NY which is wine country in the Finger Lakes of NYS. There are so many quaint wineries along the Keuka Lake wine trail that produce some of the finest wines in the country and it is only about a 2 hour drive from our house. We love to stay at this marvelous place called the Wagener Estate Bed & Breakfast and it is just minutes from 4 of our favorite wineries. The B&B is an old estate that combines history with elegance and it is so relaxing and romantic. It is the perfect place for my husband and I to rejuvenate ourselves for a couple of days so we can return home to be the best parents we can be to our children.
There is a mtn resort about 55 miles from us called Whistling Jacks that we love to go to.

THANK YOU GOD BLESS
In my front yard so I can see my garden that inspires me.
Hurricane Katrina took so much away when it hit Biloxi. One of the worst things though was our park which was filled with trees, birds, playground and most importantly the sound of childrens laughter. We have a new park now which was almost all funded by all of us and volunteers. I love it here as once again you can sit under a tree, hear the birds and more importantly the laughter of children. To me this park represents the unity of our community which pulled together when we could have been pulled apart.
I live in Florida so it would definitely be the beach.
I love the beach!
