Shaw's Original Fir...
Ecover seems to be everywhere now, which makes it easy to find. And Trader Joe's-brand cleaning products can't be beat for value.
I make my own personal care and cleaning products.
Bioplastic Cutlery should be at every restaurant that uses disposable silverware.
http://www.greenhome.com/products/kitchen/compostable_goods/114307
method cleaning products
I just bought bambu sporks for my little boy's lunch box. They are eco friendly and super cute, and they save room in the box. (We're also using cloth napkins, even for school!)
i make my own laundry soap out of tom of maine bar soap, super washing soda, and borax... i add vinegar in the wash, too!
I hope that i don't disqualify myself for this-but I don't use a bunch of green products, as some of them are quite pricey, and as my 15 year old says "flavor of the minute." I do use Dr. Bronners throughout my house, as well as vinegar and baking soda; we tend to be green by using less of stuff, more elbow grease and low impact behaviors. We've basically been green for years due to simple living.
My newest green product use is to rub down the inside of my shoes every night with hydrogen peroxide. It helps to kill the little stinky germs that live in there, so then I can keep my shoes longer.
Rndrc is exactly right - we use DR. Bronner's. Ditto on the other stuff.
Most of my green products are Trader Joe's brand or Seventh Generation. They work great!
Method, Myers and some Seventh Generation
i use trader joe's cleaning products. i also use the spray version of crystal body deoderant in my shoes when i wear them to keep the stinky germs at bay. thanks for the hydrogen peroxide tip hmr - i'll have to give that a shot~
http://www.carolsdaughter.com/
i have been using carol's daughter for a couple of years and the lotions leave the skin feeling silky their "groove" fragrance is nice on a man or a woman. many of the products i have purchased my husband likes to use because "they don't smell all girly and obnoxious". they have nice natural smells and for the most part the ingredients are pure and simple. the lady who started this company was on a mission to make natural beauty products and i don't think growing in size has hurt that foundation.
I'm a big fan of Dr. Brommer's soap, and have been for many years. This soap really is magical. I am a performer and I use heavy grease-paint, and Dr. Brommer's is the only animal friendly soap that does the job!
And for day to day use I like Burt's Bees - I'm a Maine girl at heart, and Burt's products smell, look, and where applicable, taste fabulous.
And finally, when it comes to household cleaning, well, I'm happy with a little 50/50 water-vinegar solution.
I'm a huge fan of Ecover and I adore my box of baking soda, a lemon and some white vinegar.
Dr. Bronner's and Method!
I swear by plain, ol' supermarket-variety white vinegar -- from cleaning mirrors, windows and chrome, to de-stinkafying the drains, to clearing the air post-smoker's visit -- Mom was SO right on this.
I recommend "Daisy Diva Cups" for girrrls on their rag. All of the tampons and pads that women use 5 days out of the month, 60 days out of the year, get placed somewhere and that is bad for the environment! All you ladies out there should spiffy up your apartment by adding the Daisy reusable silicone cup to your bathroom drawer. Thanks!
Second the vinegar comment. Lemon juice also works. I know a woman who cleans homes (fabulously) and uses only items found in the kitchen. Everything is spotless when she's done.
i use dr bronner's as well, but mostly i've replaced things with vinegar, b soda, and hydrogen peroxide. method products are my backup.
have used but i'm not impressed with method products. now am doing mostly homemade.
i dont know if this properly fits in the "green" category but the most environmental thing i do is i have a glass at my desk that i use for my drinks at the office so i dont have to get a new cup every time i want something to drink.
I'll stick with beauty products, of which my current (and long term) faves are:
Suki (on the expensive side, but luxurious and scrupulously green)
Aubrey (few companies are cleaner and the products--especially hair--are simply great)
Burt's Bees (green on a budget; great lotions and lip balm)
Dr Hauschka (when Suki's prices went up, I tried Dr. H and my skin is truly thanking me for it)
Of course Dr. Bronner's--since I was a tween! I make some of my own stuff too, but sometimes I have to be girly and buy stuff, or I can't get the scents just right.
I like the Method cleaning products
I use vinegar and water as an all purpose cleaner. Baking soda is great for cleaning the sink and takes the bad smell out the fridge and carpets.
Microwaving soapy water helps break down stuck-on gunk before scrubbing it clean!
I too use Ecover, Castille soap, and Trader Joes products - though another one I love is Murphy's oil soap for my wood floors!
I'm a big fan of the "unscented" Toms of Maine deodorant stick (which actually smells deliciously faintly of lemongrass). I've had one for nigh on a YEAR now and though I use it every day, it's only just coming close to being done.
I try to use green cleaning products like vinegar and the city's green bin composting program, but also, I try to be more aware of what & how I'm throwing things away. As weird as it sounds, one example is that I try to be more aware of what I'm flushing down the toilet since it takes energy to clean that water in the treatment plants. No more throwing cotton puffs, matchsticks or hair from the shower into the toilet.
I am a huge fan of Method for the bathroom (shower spray) and Ecover & 7th Generation for the kitchen (dishwashing tabs, liquid). I also love Kiss My Face's foam hand soap.
I've switched my laundry & dishwashing products (Ecover, Seventh Gen & Mrs. Meyers), I now have a stainless bottle I fill with filtered tap water, no more plastic bottles, my animals get home cooked chicken, sardines & rice meals,... a great store for everything you need is The Green Life in Santa Monica.
trader joe's
I use Shakley cleaning products. They are very good - non toxic
method and reusable water bottles!
I can't think of any particular products other than basic white vinegar.
Clorox Green Works bathroom cleaners.
I buy soap, shampoo, and conditioner from LUSH http://www.lush.com/ because it's all made fresh and pressed into soap balls and bars that require no packaging.
shackley cleaning products
Dr. Bronner's - and I read the literature on the bottle too!
I buy great Green products at my Trader Joes.
Solio solar charger!
White Vinegar for sure. Nothing works better for cleaning glass and mirrors than diluted white vinegar and newspaper!
I use Vinegar to clean my coffee maker.
White Vinegar. I use it in the washer instead of fabric softener. I filled up a spray bottle with half water and half vinegar. We use this for a cleaner. I mop with it, too.
I'm a big fan of the homemade products as well. When I need store-bought, I usually go for TJ's or Whole Foods store brand. Plus, I love Method's lavender and lemongrass candles.
Vinegar, lemon juice, essential oils and when I find it on sale, Mrs. Meyer's lavender all-purpose cleaner, which makes the house smell heavenly. Trader Joe's or Ecover for laundry. Homemade lavender sachets in linen closet and dresser drawers. Baking soda to clean sinks, toilet, jewelry, fixtures (and whiten teeth!) Rosemary or lavender oil, glycerin mixed in spray bottle with alcohol/water = great freshening spray (for linens, stinky shoes, even pets and on a hot day, people).
i use method and meyers and baking soda, vinegar too!
Trader Joe's products are the ones that I buy. I use vinegar a lot.
Nothing beats vinegar! Works for cleaning nearly everything, plus it is delicious! Love 7th Generation laundry soap, too.
I'm a fan of the DIY versions - baking soda, vinegar, lemon juice, essential oils, etc. I've also found a number of local soapmakers that I like to support.
Pangea Organic soaps because their smell is aaaahmazing and you can plant the packaging!
Speesees baby clothes, as gifts, since my friends are all getting pregnant.
Ecover and Mrs Meyers for all things cleaning.
Oooh, the best::: hand knit wash cloth / cleaning rags / dish rags that my friend Julia makes. They are going to sell them at The Green Life soon and I'm so proud. I love that I can dust my entire house and wipe down counters, without using a single paper towel.
i use swiffer steam floor cleaner.
Vinegar, definitely. And Dr. Brommer's.
Thank you so much for this giveaway. I love to use white vinager for cleaning around the house. It's not only green and inexpensive, but it also works great.
Thanks so much.
Would look great in my bath and natural too!
I don't use paper napkins I use cloth napkins.
I love Method's biodegradable dryer sheets. They start wet and can be used for 2-3 drying sessions. I used to get them at Target but now I have only found them at Whole Foods (which is a solid 1 and a half away).
This looks great. I have used Simple Green to clean almost everything in my home for 20 years now-it is safe for the animals and does the job. I also use baking soda and lemon juice and vinegar for some things.
You can clean almost anything with baking soda, white vinegar and boiling water.
no drano in my house. just vinegar and baking soda- plus its fun like grade five science fair.
For burnt on messes - lemon, salt, and ice - swirl in pot to clean.
sounds Yummy! lemon grass is one of my favorites
baking soda. be all end all.
I use Lush products. www.lush.com I just don't think I could live without their soaps and Karma perfume. Mmmmm....karma.
We've used Seventh Generation products for awhile and really like them and also Dr. Brommer's soap is good.
Thank you
:)
I use water diluted white vinegar for air freshener, carpet cleaner, glass cleaner etc. Burts Bees for beauty products!
I use Method...but after reading some of these comments, I think I'm gonna go out and buy white vinegar, baking soda and stuff like that.
What could be better than baking soda? I use it to clean the sink, tub, my diamond ring, teeth, and it's even good for baking. It's more versatile than my man! CLeaning is a passion and obsession of mine. It's reassuring to know the products I'm using won't kill half my brain cells.
I go for Trader Joe's products. They're affordable and they actually work.
gkstratos@yahoo.com
Whatever small steps I can like the basics of cleaning with vinegar and baking soda!
I use 7th generation 100% recycled paper towels. They are unscented and un dyed. They last and work very well for any clean up jobs
how lovely!
The greenest products I use are no products: I try to avoid using paper towels, I hang my laundry out to dry, and I grow my own herbs as opposed to buying them in plastic packages. But if you need a specific product: I use Jason's shampoo and conditioner. I love them:)
The only green products I have used so far are baking soda and vinegar, but I'd love to try these. Thank you so much!
I have been using the Clorox Green products. I am also a big fan of baking soda.
Soapnuts for laundry! no chemicals and they are 100% pure and natural! and essential oils for fabric softner with vinegar yes the smell goes away!
I never liked bronners just didn't like my skin and method , they don't have refill packs. But to each his/her own!
I agree about the homemade- would love to find a real effective laundry cleaner that actually cleans
I use Seventh Generation and Mrs Meyers around the house, and Aveda beauty products. Am working on phasing out plastic bags and on to biodegradable kitty litter bags!
definitely vinegar
I use simply green cleaners
i realize i'm not really original here but i use baking soda in my laundry instead of bleach to give my clothes that bit of briteness that it needs. it's easy on the environment.
natural cleaning products
I use a lot of homemade mixes such as vinegar and water mixed and used in a spray bottle. It doesn't get much greener than that :)
Charlie's Soap & Mrs. Meyer's for laundry
Burt's Bees body wash
Vinegar for just about EVERYTHING!
I make my own with warm water Dr.Bronner's. Lemon, salt and vinegar. And I use Method's wood cleaner. It has a great almond smell and is amazing on my antiques and wood floor.
I made a video on DIY cleaners that shows you hot to do it yourself.
http://www.threadbanger.com/decor-it-yourself/episode/DEC_20080401
Dr. Bronner's, Mrs. Meyer's and plain store brand white vinegar mixed with water.
My faves: Seventh Generation, Method, Dr Bronners, Pangea Organics, Burt's Bees, Jane Iredale makeup, switching to rags instead of paper towels, and the great recycling bags from DWR that my darn recycling collectors keep stealing.
Kagey- the last time I was at Target, I found refills for Method hand soap, which I was quite happy about.
Safeway Stores have a whole section of organic products that I shop frequently. I also regow my own salad mix minus any chemicals.
I keep thinking "baking soda and vinegar", but I'm weaning myself off purchased products. Right now I'm using Seventh Generation products and Clorox Green Works. I've used Burt's Bees and Tom's of Maine products forever.
My family has used Dr Bronner's pepermint soap forever! And it never gets old. Love it!
I recently began pursuing creating my own natural perfume using natural essential oils, alcohol and water. We'll see how it goes!
Reusable bags! Whether they're from Whole Food or Ikea, they are great for so many reasons, and cut down on wasteful bags from the grocery store! I am also big on buying locally grown food, etc. More importantly is using a re-usable water bottle (Sigg) and a water filtration system (Brita) @ home. My latest task is joining the http://www.takebackthefilter.org/ - so we can get the Clorox company to recycle used Brita filters!!
Method Brand products
I use a lot of baking soda, vinegar and elbow grease.
I love Lush cosmetics, they're wonderful!
I love using lemons for cleaning. They can be sent sliced down the garbage disposal to freshen up the kitchen, juice added to laundry for a lovely smell, and peels made into potpourri!
My favorite green product is method green tea instant hand sanitizer. It leaves my hands feeling nice and smooth and it s wonderful!
Instead of using plastic utensils at parties and picnic, I bring the biodegradable utensils that are made from corn.
I hope I win!
I love Mrs. Meyer's products for general household cleaning and Biokleen to do my laundry. My laundry smells really clean and fresh, even when I don't line dry outside.
Great prize, I love the candles.
Around the house, I use vinegar or baking soda to clean just about everything.
I find myself using more baking soda for almost everything. I also use newspapers to clean windows instead of paper towels. (I still recycle them afterward)
I've started using Method with microfiber cloths. They're a dream! I've also just bought a bar of Dr. Bronner's Magic Soap to try, and so far, I'm loving it.
I really would love to win this
Plain white vinegar works for everything from cleaning floors and drains to drawing the poison out of a spider bite that I got recently.
old school vinegar and baking soda
I use LUSH Fresh Handmade Products. They are great for your skin/hair and they are all natural.
white vinegar and water and newspapers to clean windows
Seventh Generation
Seventh Generation has a great line of green cleaners for the entire house.
i like to use newspaper to clean mirrors and windows along with some vinegar.
I have started using the Seventh Generation line of cleaners and I am very pleased with them. Vine gar is a great glass cleaner and white vinegar will really clean your coffee pot.
I haven't used them yet, but laundry nuts couldn't be more ecologically friendly when it comes to clothes washing. Hopefully, they'll work well.
I'm a big fan of the Clorox Green Works line of cleaning products.
I use plain old white vinegar for cleaning.
My favorite things are the simple ones--using (and reusing) cloth napkins, taking reusable silverware to work for lunches, and for that matter, using reusable containers for lunch.
I too use cloth napkins instead of paper and take my own shoping bags to the store when I shop.
Clorox's line of cleaning products called "Green Works" -- I have a set of this to clean my place and it's great -- they smell good and work!
I adore Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day aromatherapy products! They're ecofriendly and they make doing the dishes so much more enjoyable!
I enjoy the fizz created by the baking soda and vinegar combo, which I use to clean almost everything in my home.
I am using vinegar and water quite a bit these days. It works well and is inexpensive.
vinegar, and trader joes products
I use Dapple Dishliquid for my baby's bottles and I have used Ed Begley's All Natural Glass Cleaner and All Purpose Cleaner to clean the house. I have been trying to use as many natural and "green" products around the house because I have two kids and I worry about all the chemicals. Thanks for such a great giveaway!
Mostly Method. I also use Seventh Generation, Shaklee, and whatever that's recycled (paper, tissue paper, door mat...) I also try to get organic products, but only they're not so ridiculously priced.
I especailly like Pangea Organics! Facial and body care products.
On top of brands already mentioned above (Seventh Generation, Method, Mrs Meyer's, Ecover, Biokleen, baking soda/Mon Ami), I use Nature's Sunshine Concentrate right out of the bottle to scrub anything from bathroom sinks to car floor mats.
There are tons of natural, household products:
baking soda:
-as abrasive as commercial cleansers
-deodorizer (not just for your fridge, but sprinkle on your carpet and vacuum up. or sprinkle some in your kitty box for those oh-so-unpleasant smells)
vinegar:
-one part water to one part vinegar and you've got yourself a great all-purpose cleaner (the smell goes away once it dries too)
-fabric softener (freat for sensitive skin). just use ½ cup of vinegar to the rinse cycle .
lemon juice:
-1 cup olive oil ½ cup lemon juice = furniture polish
Method products plus good old elbow grease, soap, water.
I use Mrs. Meyers.
Dr. Bronner's peppermint for about 20 years! And I love the Meyers' scents.
terracycle worm poop fertilizer. It's cool - they even bottle the solution in re-used plastic bottles!
I'm now psyched to try keeping my own worm bin and collecting worm-poop-tea for my garden. :)
Method cleaning products (they smell great too!)
Pure tea-tree oil diluted with a bit of water makes the best facial toner.
I've started using the extra lemons from our backyard tree to clean my shower stall doors- just cut open a lemon, dip in backing soda and scrub down. The reaction of the baking soda and the lemon's acid cute through the soap scum on the glass.
Ecos laundry detergent
Bamboo flooring. So awesome.
I'm into borax and vinegar, so nothing new there!
Arm & Hammer makes Essentials Cleaners.
AND they have a full price rebate - go visit ArmandHammerEssentials.com to find out more about the product, and here:

Bento boxes are our latest "green" find- they are Japanese style lunchboxes and eliminate the need for excess packaging.
method cleaning products
Baking soda is a good one
I just switched from supermarket sponges to Trader Joe's natural cellulose sponges. Also, I recently purchased Trader Joe's Super Amazing Kitchen Cloths. These can be used again and again and I use these as a substitute for paper towels when cleaning down counters.
Pangea Organics is my favorite green line, and the Japanese Matcha Tea with Acai & Goji Berry Face Mask is their best product. Organic and animal-friendly, the mask not only restores but totally relaxes my skin. It has this weird crazy smell and texture that makes you feel like you're spreading a freshly ground seaweed-berry-clay potion across your face (that's a good thing). You can also plant the box to grow flowers!!?? It's a keeper.
Method and Simply Green
Um, it's not quite the same thing but it's a green product in my book: the Smith & Hawken Biostack Composter.
vinegar and baking soda
i use dr. bronners, baking soda, vinegar, and i compost. i also use greenworks, sometimes.

HOW TO CLEAN THINGS WITH THINGS AROUND THE HOUSE WITHOUT USING CEMICALS
I have been using the Green Works line of cleaning products for our home. The Natural All Purpose Cleaner works wonderfully and although it is made by Clorox, there is NO Clorox in it. It is the new natural line Clorox came out with and the prices are fantastic compared to some I have seen for sale. I also use the Natural Dilutable Cleaner which smells wonderful and also does a terrific job cleaning. I hope this isn't a repeat of what someone else posted, I didn't read through to see what others have already said!
i use reusable bags to shop in, no more plastic bags for me
I use cardboard boxes at the supermarket instead of plastic bags and then recycle them when I'm done!

I USE METHOD DISHWASHING DETERGENT .
i use a steam blaster to clean the kitchen!
I don't know if this is technically a green product, but I'll tell you why I think it is. I use "World's Best Cat Litter" for my 3 cats. We even had 5 at one time. I consider it to be environmentally because it is made from all natural whole-kernel corn, is earth-friendly and biodegradable.. It is not harmful to my pets or the environment, but mainly because I use much less of it than other litters. No dust like clay litter and no perfumes or chemicals like other scooping litters.
I use recycled paper sweeper bags. Although my husband even tries to reuse those. Yech....
i use vinegar to clean
after finally finishing leftover non green products and learning more about green products, i've started adding them to my cleaning routine. bom ami, baking soda, vinegar work wonders. i also like castille soap, method wood floor and granite cleaning products.

They also have a line of Organic Body Balm. I want to try Orange Lavender. I did learn something I didn't know, the body balms are good for tattoos. I don't have one, but I can imagine that it would be good for those who do.

Sure you've already heard of these, but my family uses them.
Toms of Maine, Dr. Bronners and Burts bees. Love 'em all...
My idea of a green product is anything I buy at a thrift store. No energy is used to make the product and it is recycling at its easiest.
Just plain old castile soap, sometimes make my own.
Dr. Bronner's liquid soap. I like almond. Use it for personal cleaning and around the house. It might sound weird but every so often I will scrub the shower using a half a lemon and salt with it. Smells really good and cleans the grout well.

List of the most common nasty chemicals to be avoided at all costs:
Ammonia - check your window and glass cleaner, this is a potential lung irritant.
Antibacterial agents - it is believed that these lead to an increase in âantibiotic resistantâ bacteria. Allow the body to be exposed to germs naturally by way of skin exposure and T1 resistance (the first line of defense) will be stimulated. A sterile home does not protect your health.
Chlorine Bleach - so smelly and a major irritant to skin and lungs, potentially asthmatic.
Petroleum - known as surfactants in detergents, paraffins in polishes all derived from the âpetroleum pollutionâ industry.
Phosphates - causes algae to form in water systems which damages marine life.
Phthalates - do you really love that âclean smellâ? Linked to cancer and respiratory diseases in lab animals.
Nitrobenzene - an agent in polishes, associated with cancer, birth defects and even death.
