- What do you love about your bedroom?:
- We love how bright the space is. During the day, it is filled with natural sunlight and at night our light fixtures give off a relaxing and romantic glow. The white walls (previously dark grey) are also the perfect background for a refreshing retreat from the outside chaos of NYC life. We can relax with reduced distractions and think openly about new, creative endeavors.
- What are your tips for creating a beautiful, healthy and organized bedroom?
- Know where everything you own âlivesâ and have a plan for anything new needed or wanted. For us, this meant starting with a great purge before moving in together. Any piece of furniture, décor, or clothing was evaluated for its functionality, necessity, and quality. We sold and donated many items and cautiously bought new things only if they maximized the potential use of the space and streamlined the procedures of daily life. Now it is just a matter of managing the organization and remaining observant to our everyday and seasonal routines, allowing for adjustments as needed.
- In modern homes, bedrooms have become more than just a place to sleep; they can be a retreat, a home office, a library, a relaxation zone. What are some ways you make the most of your bedroom?
- Rob and I are both designers (Graphic Designer and Architect) and it was important for us to have a workspace for our professional and personal projects. Not only do we have a large desk that accommodates us both when at the computer and drawing, but the entire room has become a background for DIY projects: a Lindsey Adelman chandelier, gold-leaf dipped furniture legs, patinaed dresser knobs, a canvas with hidden folding brackets that doubles as a projector stand, and an evolving photo collage.

Can I live here, please? Absolutely beautiful. Resource for the desk?
I was just going to ask the same thing about the desk! I love it! I'm totally jealous of how serene and sunny this room is. Beautiful.
Love all the personalised IKEA, what a difference knobs can make!
Rachel, that's a IKEA butcher countertop and IKEA legs (Alex is the one with the drawers and the other one I can't remember the name)
This feels so fresh and serene. Is that a diy Lindsey Adelman light?
aw, where's that cute house tissue holder from? great room, btw!
Is the chandelier a DIY project or a purchase?
I think it's UMBRA and you can get them for cheap on Amazon - $5, I think. I'm in real estate, bought them as funny gifts for my co-workers. :)
this room is so visually relaxing. looks like such a great place for a cat nap with all that beautiful sunlight streaming in!
I love the layout of this room. Very cool and gorgeous light!
Thanks, Rachel O.! jbmariani is correct - the desk is from IKEA. The trestle and the drawers are part of the VIKA system and the top is a NUMERÄR kitchen countertop.
Britabroad - it is indeed a Lindsey Adelman light. Super affordable, fun and quite easy to assemble.
LOVE THIS ROOM!!!! How did you personalize the IKEA nightstand legs?
Looks great! Did you buy the tiny gold knobs on the top drawers of the dresser? Those are just what I am looking for: )
Thank you, mbenard224! We just painted the bottom of the legs with gold leaf paint and added a little patinaed brass knob.
When I'm dead and in heaven this is what my bedroom will look like
Wow! I love this room.
I don't normally like white walls (I know this confession might result in me being overwhelmingly shunned) but this is truly astounding and a great choice over the previous dark grey colour mentioned.
I also like the personalized IKEA decor. Something even I could afford (someday).
Nice job!
Wow I love this room! It is so nice to see an amazing bedroom that doesn't have the best view because my room also looks out at a wall, so this is really inspiring to me. The white walls really make the room look huge although it is only medium sized which I love! Man it just looks like such a relaxing space!
This is my kind of bedroom! Light, airy, wood mixed with white. Perfect!
This feels so fresh! Very well done.
this is wonderful. like northstory, i love the combo of white and wood - natural, soothing, yum. even better with a little bit of plant life thrown in. i'm curious what's in the corner with the folding wooden chair - is there a bookshelf back there, or a shelf or just a hanging spider plant? thank you for sharing this little slice of heaven.
mwp212 - The small knobs on the nightstand and dresser are from Home-Depot. They were a bright brass at first, so we stuck them in the oven for a couple of hours brushed in vinegar to get a less shiny, darker color.
maplesyrup - Thank you! That corner just has a sky planter/spider plant above the folding chair.
I love this room - bright and uncluttered but not minimalist it feels warm and inviting! Can you tell me what white paint you used?
It is a perfect bedroom as far as I am concerned calm yet inspiring and a place for everything. Nice to see a room furnished with items we can purchase in Australia.
Nice light. I used to have the same clock radio.
oh, lovely. Nice layout.
I feel rested just looking at it.
I want to see the rest of the apartment!!! pretty please . . .
By far my favorite bedroom so far. Truly a bedroom retreat. Thank you for sharing.
Gorgeous! I love the heaven comment. So true.
I rarely comment, but this is amazing! Love the copious amounts of sunlight and natural feel of this bedroom.
This is the most beautiful bedroom so far! Definitely deserves the win!
i love the ceiling light fixture. quirky enough to add an interest to the room, but light enough to not make it look weighted down.
Echoing all the comments before. This is hands down my favorite room. I would love to see the rest of your home. Love the light, warm wood and white. Can I ask where you found that great alarm clock?
Love that light fixture!
Good luck with the contest,
Julie

I, too, would love to see the rest of your apartment!! This is beautiful.
Wow that's great- thanks!
My absolute hands-down favourite! Peaceful and airy - gorgeous.
What a lovely room. In my top 5 for sure. Way to go! Excellent use of the space.
Thanks, moriah rose! The paint is just a simple Benjamin Moore interior white in an eggshell finish.
Dolce Glassa - the alarm clock is a thrift store find!
Love, love, love. Clean and simple without a bare or stark feeling. Not a fan of putting a desk in the bedroom, though, for energetic reasons but yours works and blends beautifully (and yes, I understand that might be the only space you have). So very well done!
House tour!
This room is so stunning! Simply beautiful. Would love a full house tour!
Looks great! Would you happen to know the dimensions of this room?
Thank you, tobias2! The room dimensions are very 'unique' - a narrow 7'-6" wide by a looong 21'-10".
This room belongs in a novel.
My god, that desk chair is the exact model my parents had in the 70s! I grew up sittin in that chair. They bought theirs in the Virgin Islands. Where did you get yours?
Ryan Boudinot - The desk chair is a Brooklyn street find!
Love the room, very calming and unique. Your pictures capture it beautifully! I hope you win the contest!!
favourited! We are moving into a place with white walls and this is an inspiration : )
Your place is great! If your ever in the Baltimore area and would like to do a weekend swap let me know.

Wow, it's white. Really white.
Love. Love. Love! My favorite so far. The white feels calming (I know I may be in the minority on this one) + the touches of wood add the perfect amount of warmth. Altogether lovely space!
Although it's a narrow room, you make it work with a desk for your computer. I liek the crisp whiteness of the space and there is no bold color competing for your attention, ist's simple and fresh. I like the knobs on the dresser, all different.
I'm sad that my bedroom didn't make it in the top four, however I absolutely love your bedroom so I don't feel quite so bad:)
Where did you get the bunny and squirrel hangers? They are adorable!
Hi Annie TwoBraids - the hooks are from Anthropologie.
Love this. Did you have to modify the Numerar countertop to fit the space? I'm looking to use one similarly, but it is a little too deep as is.
No, Howdydailey, we did not modify the countertop. It is the standard 25-5/8" depth.
Hi AT!
The final round was quite a roller coaster! And while it still stings a bit from losing in the last few minutes, Rob and I are honored to have even made it into this contest. Your kind comments on this page were hands down the best part of the journey! Thank you for all the support.
We are also delighted to see an appreciation for design diversity on this blog. Some may label this room as "minimalist", but we hope that is a positive term for the other modest budgets, DIYers, organized, and lovable clean freaks out there.
Congratulations, Kiel!
This room is a wonderful mix of cool and warm! Where did you get your bed frame?
Thanks, ewoo. The bed frame is from West Elm.
Tiffany, you were robbed! Yours was by far the best room and I think the most au courant - light, airy and yes, accessible even to those on a budget. Well done! I hope AT has the sense to bring you back for a House Call.
absolutely beautiful!!
all white, wooden, sunlight bright, baskets... i think our rooms were separated at birth, except mine is the hold-on-to-everything, add books + a tv version. i even have the exact stackable baskets by the door (great for recycling, curious what yours holds).
plus, id trade my renter house ceiling fan light for your art one anyday!
gorgeous, thanks for sharing!
i add my voice to the “i love your room the best” + “can we pretty please have a house tour”! :)
It is simple and beautiful. The person who decorated this room has an excellent taste.
I would love to see the rest of the apartment as well.
