Inspiration for my palette:
When we moved into our 1920's multi-family home about a year ago, the living-dining area had thick red carpeting and vertical blinds that made the room feel dark. The blinds were removed and when the carpeting was pulled up, we found beautiful hardwood flooring that needed a light sanding and refinishing. Once I realized the room gets tons of sunlight throughout the day, I decided to paint one wall by the dining area a dark color to show off the Ethiopian woven baskets that I had collected over the years. I started off with choosing the lighter shade and went on to the darker color that will complement it. First, I was worried that I chose a color that was too dark but now that I see how it turned out, I couldn't be happier! Even my fussy six month old baby loves it and is at her calmest when we sit down to eat and she is facing the 'wall of baskets'.
Colors used in my room:
Light blue gray (Light French Gray), dark gray with purple undertones (Distant Thunder), small amount of jewel tone accents brought in by the woven baskets.
Tips for using color successfully:
Don't be afraid of dark colors and incorporate things you love into your home decor.
