For the start of bathroom design month decided to comb through some past house tours to round up some inspiring tile ideas. In going back through we expected to find a larger range of tiles (especially more subway tiles) but what we actually found were that those small square tiles are everywhere. And even though we think of them as being pretty modern we found them popping up in all kinds of different bathrooms: from Stacy's ornate gilded bathroom to Eric and Christine's luxurious (almost) outdoor shower.

Kelly's Modern Craftsman has a more subdued all white square tile on the wall next to the bathtub and then some larger scale marble tiles on the floor.

I used these in the bathroom and kitchen. It is a great DIY alternative because there is not a lot of cutting. You can just snip the glass tiles to the right length. I even used them at the fireplace. mosaictilesupplies.com has some really cheap ones and nice ones too. I went for the cheap.
I love little penny tiles, but using tiny tiles on such large bathroom surfaces is... a bit overwhelming for me.
Those are pretty bathrooms, I think. But my god, but can you guys fix the slideshows? It's been months since you started this new design, and it's even worse than the old java applet. They are the most painful things to deal with, and one of the pleasant web experience of any current website I visit. Hint - the thumbnails should not redraw themselves, above the photo one is viewing, so as to obscure what the user is trying to see. (Don't worry -- it's possible to do it so it's easy to see, and still display ads every page. Really.)
I find most of the pictured bathrooms to be hideous or off in some way. Argh. One should not use the same tile on the floor for the sink surface or backsplash. It unifies the floor with the countertops and creates a mental connection between germs on the floor with the rest of the surfaces.
The only one I really like is the nice green tub/shower enclosure (see no similar tiles on the floor?) that evokes an indoor/outdoor feel.
In my opinion, the only time the same tile should be used for three planes or more is when one is designing a bathroom with an unenclosed shower.
the tile in half of these bathrooms are not very impressive- there must be better examples than this. i love a big white subway tile though because i agree, little tiles everywhere can get very overwhelming

Instead of just choosing random bathrooms as "best tiled bathrooms", why not let your readers submit their own pics and then decide (or let your readers decide)?
That first bathroom is lovely - except for the crazy clutter of soaps, shampoos and exfoliants...
...I really like the green one too - but my fave is the second to last with that grand rococco-gold mirror, nickel sconces iridescent tiles and plentiful niches for the inevitable bottles of body goo - That one's going in my inspiration file.
They're all nice however the all white ones are TOO white for my taste but I like the overall execution them, the powder room the best and I'd use the tile to add the pop of color, say for the long counter in the white half bath of say blue or red/orange or something instead of all white mosaic tiles.
The top one I like for it's random blue/white scheme, the roccoco one w/ the random blue mosaic for the tile work itself and the tub but I think the one I like the most is the green one and I'm not really a green person, but it's the overall execution and style of that space that works for me.
I LOVE the boxes over the toilet in the last one. Any idea where those are from or has anyone seen boxes similar to those?
