Cuban cement tiles are a traditional floor covering that can be dated back to the mid 19th century. Since they are cement and not clay, they do not need to be fired. They are often detailed with elaborate designs in vibrant colors that last over the decades.
Traditional cement tile is seeing a recent renewed interest because of the material's green characteristics. It is made of a mixture of Portland cement, marble powder and natural pigments for developing those strong, beautiful colors. The examples shown above are:

White Enamel Four-P...
I saw a lot of these on La Palma (Spain).. I think they are absolutely beautiful and a very nice way to bring color into the house!
Beautiful!
I still love the old tile designs with all the colors. Spanish or Italian, I love them all!
The Designer Insider
Errez Design Inc. is just completeing a kitchen renovation project in Coral Gables, Florida using localy handmade cuban tiles. A variety of colors and patterns were combined to form a patchwork effect. The rest of the kitchen is very elegant and simple to allow the tiles to be the focus of the project. These tile really bring out the charm of this (almost) 100 year old historic cottage.

our 1933 apartment came with the original encaustic cement tiles still in the hall and on the balcony... they are so beautiful and by far my favourite flooring in the apartment (the rest of the floors are either normal tile or ikea laminate)
i wonder why this stuff fell out of fashion? it's so beautiful and durable.
I drove by this place the other day...

is there anywhere to find these in nyc?
You can order directly from us, we ship everywhere. If it is an in-stock tile, we can get it there quickly. If a custom order, lead time varies. Thx, Lundy at Villa Lagoon Tile
