My grandmother recently moved from her apartment in Paris to a house in the countryside where she can grow old in a bit more comfort. I'm visiting now and I'm in heaven. The house is filled with incredible tile that's original to the house:

The house is in the south of France which is where encaustic tiles were born back in the 1850's. The house was built not long after that in the 1870's so these tiles have survived for over 100 years.
I noted the tile in a previous post when the family was looking for a house and stumbled upon this one. Now the house and the tile is a part of the family.

Freaking gorgeous. I'd love to have that in my home.
There is a store in Berlin that still sells hand-made tiles and ceramics.

This one seems to have the widest range I've ever seen : http://www.artetciment.com/
Lovely images and tiles, but these floors are not encaustic, they are cement tiles. Quite different!

Congratulations on the house--it looks very cool!
