Tim has shared some of his amazing home improvement projects with us in the past — most notably Tim's Weekend Painting Project: Blue Bookcase & TV Wall and his Stairwell Feature Wall. In this project, Tim shows us a glimpse of his home's exterior and explains why he needs house numbers that are over a foot tall!
My most recent residential project is nearing completion and I thought the readers might be interested in some front door shots. I’ve been inspired by Apartment Therapy’s numerous posts on front door colors, modern entries, house numbers, etc., so I wanted to share my results.
The house numbers are custom laser cut from a local fabricator to my drawings and then mounted to the house with some 1-½" stainless standoffs (I mounted them myself!). Each number is 13" tall because the house sits about 100' from the street. The doorbell is from Spore and the stainless planter from CB2. The color of the front door is Valspar “Green Gecko” (6006-8A).
Thanks Tim!

Love those! And the front door/windows are amazing!
These are awesome!
Can you tell us the material the numbers were cut from? I assume stainless steel, but thickness? And I'd especially like to know the cost breakdown. thanks!
Tim, As much as I love the house numbers, what I really want to know is what color/brand of paint did you use on the front door? I love yellow!
TKPKgirl - the brand and color are in the text — please read before posting questions!
Tim, THANK YOU for being a homeowner who understands the importance of having visible house numbers if you are going to bother giving anyone your address. There is nothing worse than having to rely on numbers painted on the curve or drive 5 miles per hour on a street where no one illuminates the door, or has the standard lil' black numbers hidden on the house somewhere.
LOL! That should have been "curb", not "curve".
God that entire entry way makes me drool. Absolutely lovely!
Me likey.
Thank you all for the positive comments! This is actually my brother's house that I designed for him and did some work on with him (such as these numbers).
Because we were on a really tight budget, the house numbers were made by a local metal fabricator. We contacted them with the idea and they volunteered to do the work for free. They actually wanted to try out importing AutoCAD files into their laser cutter. This was take two because the first ones didn't come out right. I've found if you work with local vendors and challenge them to try something new, they usually do it for free to learn. He even used scrap stainless from his shop, so we didn't have to pay for the material either. This guy was awesome!
The stainless is 3/32" thick. My brother bought the standoffs from Amazon for like $10 and we drilled holes through the stainless and siding to mount them. We put silicon in the hole on the house while inserting the standoff to prevent water intrusion through the siding.
So, for about $10, some extra effort and a little labor on our part, we got some massive house numbers. I looked online and these would have cost us almost $1,000 from someone else.
Oh yeah, the door color is more of a yellow/greenish color (specified in the write-up). With the setting sun, the color varies a bit. But, we all LOVE it.
Thanks again for the positive feedback!
Do you happen to know the color of the red siding?
Thanks!
