Your Home Office Organization or Tech Tip: We needed a dual use space, this is our office as well as our TV room. So we wanted a workspace that would minimise when we just wanted to sit back and watch TV. When folded up, the desks resemble the shelves on the wall, and double in depth when unfolded. Also, the cables/modem etc. is all hidden behind the fake walls hanging on hinges from under the desk. The hiding of the cables has made the biggest difference to the feel of the room. All of a sudden it felt uncluttered and roomy.

Love those folding desk/shelf units; genius.
did you make the folding shelves? me likey.
good work
Very clever; well done!
I really like it and this looks like a perfect solution for a challenge I have. Is there a bottom support for the fold-down part, or is the entire weight supported by the top hinges?
LOVE the folding shelves! great design idea :))
How smart are those folding shelves!
Nice hack!
This is brilliant! Besides all the benefits you mentioned, the fake walls also prevent the inevitable footprints and scuff marks to the wall area under the desk.
This is a great combination of form AND function.
Thanks for the comments everyone.
I am about to put some wallpaper on the fake walls today, hopefully that will hide them a bit more.
Yes I designed/made the desk and shelf units. They are attached to the walls with 45mm x 35mm blocks which I have screwed straight into the studs. I then screwed through the back of the desk/shelves with long wood screws into the blocks. The big washers you can see on the desk units are needed so that the small heads of the screws dont pull through the wood.
TulumChica - the weight of the fold out parts for the desk is supported only by the hinges. I have to say I was a bit skeptical that it would support itself, but it feels solid (fingers crossed it stays that way).
Wow, really clever, crafty, and talented! And beautiful and so functional.
How did you cut the wood? Do you have a woodcutter, or can you have it done at a store like Home Depot? I'd really like to do something like this myself so advice would be greatly appreciated!
