- Inspiration for my palette:
- The kitchen faces south south east, so it's very sunny in the morning. I like bright happy colors to have my morning coffee and breakfast . And I just happen to love orange and have been collecting orange pottery for some time now. Oh, and my favorite ice cream as a kid was dreamsicles!
- Colors used in my room
- Tangerine orange and bok choy green. A little bit of blue, gray and a dash of just about every other color in the area rug. Which is great because it doesn't show the wear and tear of everyday living. Our kitchen is the most used room in the house, with a family of two and an additional three felines!
- Tips for using color successfully
- First, don't be afraid of using different colors, and different shades of the same color. They don't have to "match" but adding white in the room helps to balance things out. The best rule is to go with what makes you feel good!

I love this kitchen.....and the green looks so fun with the orange.............I want it.....peace
The cat butt!
THE FRIDGE. I need that fridge. But what's going on with the old TV that has to be black and white and the rotary dial phone that doesn't look like it's sitting there ironically? Do you really USE both of those? If so, wow.
You have a really fresh, cohesive look going on here.
Great looking! I studied the photos and realized that it could be changed back to a basic white kitchen in a flash ! The colors is all in the accessories and paint. Love the vintage vibe. Love that most of the elements in this kitchen are available at big box stores and not super expensive. Fridge is beyond cool.
What are the floor tile colors ? Beige and grey ?
Has anyone noticed that the "hot" trend in kitchens is moving away from the stove ( commercial) to the fridge ( vintage) ??? Maybe we are getting lazier and don't want to cook!!! ~ C
Love that vintage tv! I also have the same phone but in a sea-foam green (?) color. It's non-working and prob. just for show. Good use of orange....not too much, not too little.
I Have been in this kitchen and its even better than in the photos! Plus there are usually 2 or 3 kitty's laying around!
But there's a cord connected to it...
Well done! Conventional wisdom says to never paint a kitchen green (it's supposed to kill the appetite), but you proved it wrong.
I also love the phone - if we didn't need a speakerphone, I would totally track one down.
This looks almost spookily like my kitchen: white cabinets, yellow painted backsplash, and what looks like LEDs under the cabinets. My accents are more true red and leaf green, but our kitchens could be sisters. I'd like to applaud you for keeping it simple with the backsplash. Seems like everybody these days is insisting the kitchen isn't finished until there's a backsplash made of horizontal tiles, or tiny glass squares, or stainless steel ... The effect you (and I) have is restful, period-appropriate and avoids the "done to death" look.
Rad color combo. And you leave the corded phone on the island? Where everyone would trip over the cord as they walk by? Ohhh, it's just the for the picture. That's cool.
This kitchen screams fun! Your sleepy eyes will get a jolt before the first cup of joe in the morning. The brillant orange old school appliances are a clever accent to the white cabinetry. A job well done!
LOVE Tina's Kitchen! Wish I could send her the Mandarin Coriander products from the Thymes. All the packaging is orange, green and white.
Love your kitchen, wish I could eat there more often!!! She is a great cook also! Bonnie from Tenn
Love this kitchen. The white cabinets make the kitchen look clean and full of light. I also love the beautiful splash of green (that's my favorite green), and the orange color details of the decoration completes the look. Great job, Tina.
I bet the pleasant and cheerful environment helps the two of you star a great day!
Is the fruit basket on the island one of those mesh things? Where is it from? I've only seen them in white and only at the MOMA store for more than I'll ever pay even though I really love the idea of soft mesh hugging my apples and kiwis instead of metal wire. :(
And, there's a ye olde typewriter on the desk. I think Tine must like old stuff, ironically or not, and chooses to use it in her decorating and life. Which is lovely, since that means a typewriter, tv, and phone aren't in a landfill. They're in a jazzy kitchen that I'd love to have my morning coffee in too. :)
oh, argh! Tina, I'm sorry!
Love love LOVE it!
Mmmm kittty butt! Also like the "wipe your paws" and the table that the micro is on.
Looks good, fun, favorited.
Oh that space between the stove and the counter would drive me CRAZY! And there is no counter space to prepare food on...
I like parts of this room, but I don't think light green and deep orange go together.
living the dream-sicle?
Love the colors and vintage pieces. Love the art piece standing in the corner!
First, I'm envious of all the cabinet and drawer space. The white cabinets look fresh and set off the orange pottery collection very nicely. Love the vintage T's...telephone, television and typewriter. Also like the perfectly centered tile above the stove. Well done!
I have been in this kitchen a few times! Envy time I just beam because the room makes me so happy. I LOVE Tina's kitchen!
Some of my favorite colors -- and so fresh together. Lovely!!
Gorgeous and fun!! Puts a happy smile in ones heart and mood! Love this kitchen!!! Inviting...so, what time for coffee...or margarita's?:)
I so loved Tina's taste and foresight to pick the right colors and elements for a beautiful and armonic combination, that I copied her color scheme and pattern and used it in my kitchen when I remodeled it some time back. I thank her for her design and for picking my son as her better half becoming automatically my daughter in law. Love you Tina.
I love this color combination, which reminds me of the color scheme of the Little home in the Stuart Little movies, which my kids love!
First, thank you for your comments. Now to answer questions. The TV works although it isn't hooked up to cable so it only gets one channel that tends to roll:) The phone works and is usually kept by the TV. It has a long cord so you can carry it around while using. All young visitors love to dial out on it! The typewriter is a 1950 Olivetti that we use for leaving notes, thoughts etc...The Fridge is a long coveted purchase from Bigchill.com.The stove is a temp hence the gap between the counter. The fruit holder thingy is from Chilewich.com.Thanks again!
Go Big Orange'!!!
So bright and fun. Luv the colors. Great job
LOVE this kitchen. Surprised at how much I like that green with the orange. Very brave and it works!
