There are still instances when emailing a file is too difficult, or maybe one of the parties involved don't have a DropBox account. For easy file transfer, sometimes nothing beats a tiny flash memory drive that you hand over, person to person. They are convenient and in some cases, even machine wash-proof. Let's take a look at these near-microscopic accessories we still like to keep around...

Supertalent Pico USB Drive
Pico Series USB drives are incredibly small and tiny flash drives offering up to 32GB data storage. Pico drives feature up to 30 MB/s transfer speeds. Measuring merely 1.50"x0.50", not only are Pico drives ideal for transporting your data, digital images, and presentations, they are also the perfect accessory to use on keychains, mobile phones, or even wearing as a necklace. We like the all metal construction. Hot Plug and Play and powered by USB Bus, No External Power is Required.

Lego My Thumb Drive
Compact and powerful, this 4GB USB Flash Drive is perfect for storing small files, music and images to make data transfer less of a hassle! Comes with a coordinated cap for protection. USB Flash Drives offer reliable solid-state memory. Compatible with Windows and Mac operating systems. Dimensions: 1.5" x 0.75" x 0.25" (LxWxH)

USB Gold Bar
This fun USB drive may not be the smallest of the bunch but trés cool nevertheless! Comes with 4GB of storage and it measures 55 x 23 x 12mm and weighs just 45g, from the photos it looks pretty realistic and resembles a mini gold bar rather than a USB drive. 999.9 gold brick shaped design with metal housing and retractable USB connector. Plug and Play, hot-swapped capability.

The title of the article is mind-boggling. WHERE ELSE would you put your thumb drive? Where have YOU been keeping it? Mine is on my keychain... in my pocket. ;)
I've wanted a Supertalent Pico drive pretty much since they were announced. There have been consistent reports of them not fitting well in some USB drives, because they are a little bigger than most other USB devices. I'm not sure if these are out of spec, or if some ports are merely too small. If anyone has a recent model, let us know how they fit!
I am a huge fan of tiny USB drives. I don't understand why you would buy the old "stick of gum" form factor anymore, unless you're planning to throw it into a large bag or purse and don't want to lose it. For key chain use, this type of tiny USB drive is far superior.
I own the Super Talent Pico (16GB for $30) and haven't had any problems with it. I also recommend the Verbatim Tuff 'n' Tiny series (16GB for $34); they are available in bright colors, and are slightly thinner than the Super Talent Pico (but a little bit longer).
If you want a tiny drive with a "squashed" form factor (a regular USB connector, but with a short body that barely protrudes from the jack), you can opt for the LaCie MosKeyto (16GB for $46). Or, for a cheaper and more flexible option, get an elago Mobile Nano II microSDHC reader ($9, add a 16GB microSDHC card for $20). You can leave these in your USB jacks permanently; I use the former to add 32GB storage to an early EEE PC that had only 4GB hard drive space.
I'm sometimes a little on the cheap side, so one of my drives is a modified promo drive. The one I was given for free (4 gigs, not bad) had a huge plastic enclosure, that cracked riding in my laptop bag. I took the guts out and made a case using a little epoxy and a Sprite can. it now measure 1 13/16" x 5/8". It's not the absolute smallest but it's only slightly bigger than the Super Talent Pico and is now personalized, rugged, and is smaller than a key. I need to add a ring to it so I can start carrying it with my keys.
