Q: I'm moving into this Lakeview Studio in Chicago — the main room is about 12x15. My friend is handing down this studio to me, and the pictures are of how he furnished it. I'd like to come up with a more efficient way to arrange the furniture, though.

The couch is going to stay (at least til I can find an alternative). I am wondering how I can create a flexible living are that I can dine in as well. I also want to be able to have guests over, so I'd like to be able to conserve space when I can:

I had a bit of a dilemma about where to put the bed in relation to the patio (accessed through the door seen a the back of the top picture). I'm also wondering whether or not I should get a Murphy bed, or stick with a regular one.

Any suggestions would help — I'm moving in next month and I know I'm going to have to start with something to sleep on first. Cheers!
