I just posted a 1 month update about the garden, which has more than tripled in size! Those tiny tomato seedlings are almost taller than I am now and they tower above the munchkin, who can't believe how big his "baby plants" are getting. Plus we have more than a dozen strawberries, tomatoes and cucumbers coming in on our balcony. We also planted Jack-Be-Little pumpkins that are starting to grow and will be ready for harvest in late September.
See even more photos of the 'snacking garden' at Ariela's blog, Sweet Happy Life.
Thanks, Ariela!

This looks great and it's an awesome idea for kids! I have a similar project going on our balcony but my (not-yet) 2 year old will not wait for anything. She ate all the tiny wild strawberries before they had a chance to ripen. Some peas managed to grow fully but most were eaten teeny tiny. One berry bush was completely eaten in two afternoons :)
I created a summer calendar of ideas for parents and their young children and planting a garden in pots was one such idea. Thanks for proving all you need are a few pots, seeds, soil and lots of love.
this is fantastic! how much sun do you get a day? i love how the toys are intermingled with the plants - it's very sensual - play, food, learning, growing (the plants and your child), both nature and man-made fun all mixed together on one balcony. great use of space and what a delightful combination playroom/laboratory for a young developing mind. love this.
I love this and agree completely with the comment above :) Thanks for sharing!
