In our small living room we have a couch and one arm chair - which lately my son has completely co-opted. He insists on sitting there and cries and cries if someone else dares take his spot. While not wanting to give in to his demands, I have wondered if getting him his own chair wouldn't only delight him, but also keep our chair cleaner (not to mention free for use). So I wanted to see what my options were for small, modern, comfortable chairs. Here are the results of my research with a handful of options at different price points:
Budget:
• Poang armchair ($29.99 by Ikea)
• Little Reader ($69.99 by P'kolino)
• My First Hybrid Chair ($79 at Pottery Barn Kids)
• The Nod Chair ($99)
• Cubino Chair ($109 by Monte Design)

Mid-Range:
• Anywhere Recycled Beanbag ($129 at Pottery Barn Kids)
• Fatboy Junior ($199 at Design Public)
• Baby Maggie ($199 at Crypton)
• Mini Fashion Bean Bag ($199 by Sitting Bull)
• Ava Toddler Chair ($299-399 by Jennifer DeLonge)
Lux:
• Parker Child Chair ($399-499 by Jennifer DeLonge)
• mini-e ($899 at Little Nest)
• Junior Templeton (starting at $995 by Jonathan Adler)
• Child's Womb Chair ($2,831 by Knoll Kids, but free shipping!)
I'd love to know what you think - what attractive, toddler-size chairs have I missed? Have you bought a small chair for you kid and regretted it? Loved it? I'll let you know what I decide and will read your comments with interest!

Nomade Express Slee...
We bought a kids reclining armchair at Costco last Christmas for $50. It's been a HUGE hit with our own toddler and all little visitors to our house. It doesn't take up much space, and, being so small and light, can easily be moved around as needed.
We bought a chair similar to the Pottery Barn one, for $10 via craigslist. It was an instant hit with our daughter, and does, as the original post suggests, help preserve the rest of our furniture. Absolutely no regrets.
I believe this is discontinued -- we got ours off a deal-a-day site over a year ago -- but our gal loves this: http://www.amazon.com/Mush-Lounger-color-Black-Pink/dp/B000Y4SP54
Our kiddos love to climb around in their playroom and we love soft, kid friendly seating. I have some small vintage chairs in there, but they needed something a bit more toddler-tolerant. I'm still a bit cheap to buy chairs at those prices so I made these: http://kinzieskreations.blogspot.com/2010/08/couch-pillows-turned-floor-cushions.html
we have a wooden Adirondack chair, which was given to us as a gift.
Though we had intended to take it outdoors, it has become a permanent fixture in our living room since our daughter (now 18 months) loves it so much! The wide sturdy design of the chair, though not great for indoor aesthetics, is very practical, because she can climb all over it and it never tips over -- something i fear would be an issue with some of the adorable chairs featured above.
Wow, that blue throne from Parker would be sure to raise a little emperor the right way though ;) I'm surprised that there's no adult furniture that you can easily turn into child furniture with extra cushions or something like that...
The Anywhere Chair from Pottery Barn is my go-to gift for first birthdays! One suggestion - don't bother with the "My First" Anywhere Chair shown in the post - just get the full-sized version from the get-go. It's only slightly more expensive and be useful for a lot longer!
I'm sure there are lots of ways to turn an adult chair into a kid chair with cushinos, like chocri suggested but then you have to deal with the larger footprint of an adult chair, now co-opted by a small child. My niece was given a tiny rocking chair once owned by her (other) aunt and it is a huge hit with the little ones and it is so small and light, you can toss it behind the couch when need be.
I have to say that I am also not a fan of buying a bunch of stuff, and not always necessarily a fan of buying kid-versions of things, but I bought my older daughter the Pottery Barn chair when she was a year old, and it has been used many times a day, EVERY day, for the last 3 1/2 years. Both of my girls sit on it, flip it over, climb on it, and drag it around all day long when we are home. It's still in fantastic condition too. It was such an out of character purchase for me since I never buy expensive stuff like that, but I've never regretted that purchase for a moment.
Oh, and I agree--don't bother with the baby version of the chair. Just get the big one.
We bought the My First Anywhere Chair from PB Kids for our son's first birthday. He loved it and until quite recently used it exclusively. He's now almost three and is starting to park himself in the middle of the couch but still goes to his chair once or twice a day. FYI, as a medium-sized almost three-year-old, he still fits in the My First chair. I'd say in another few months he'll be too big.
The slipcovers on these chairs are great. (We have the red.) I've washed and washed ours and it still looks good.
Target has an adorable leather club chair for kids. It never, ever goes on sale. :(
I don't think hatred for kid-size furniture that is soft is well founded because those soft chairs and beanbags turn into gross-motor gym equipment for any day or into walls of a fort, hideaway, or whatever.
Utilisez votre imagination.
$200 for a BEAN BAG?! I think I need to go puke now.
Oh, no, no, no. It's not just a bean bag... it's a "fashion" bean bag.
