"Being curious individuals ourselves, we began developing TOKENnyc in 2009. The result is a collection of historically reverent, handcrafted furniture and lighting products; a distilled representation of TOKEN which aims to provide elements for purposeful, considered living.

Drawing inspiration from bridges, rigging equipment and the classic director’s chair, we've created a chair that is equally suitable for work or dining. The TOKENnyc Catenary Dining Chair is about intended contrasts: rigidity and flexibility, thick and thin lines, soft and hard edges and heavy and weightless proportion. The combination of these dissimilar characteristics aims at continuity, and the tension between the parts carries a peaceful pose."

About Design Showcase 2010: This summer we're celebrating the best in design for the home. We're taking submissions from independent and student designers from around the world and letting our readers vote on who they think has the best design. There's also a panel of august judges (no pun intended). Two winners will win $20,000 in targeted advertising placements on our sites to help launch their careers ($10k apiece).
