Tokyo's largest design event continued this week despite heavy rain and typhoon warnings, the main site were however forced to close for a day because of the threatening weather. Sadly we were disappointed by more than just the downpour — the Design Week just didn't meet up to our expectations. There was no shortage of talent but the presentation and organization of the event itself left us confused and exhausted.
I assumed the fair, collectively, to be named 'Tokyo Design Week' — but only a small part of the initiative carried this title. To confuse matters, the Tokyo Design Week site does not include Tokyo Design Tide where the majority of events and exhibits were taking place.
Also TENT Design Show as we know it in London is not TENT used in Tokyo — despite almost identical branding. We spoke to the organizers of the (original) TENT and they assured us they were in town to clarify the confusion. Next year promises to be more exciting with big changes and a more streamlined event. I look forward to these changes! Watch this space for more news in the coming months. In the following weeks we will feature some of the designers and products we discovered during this event.
