This one is just for the girls. Parents of little girls most likely have an expanding collection of barrettes and hair accessories.
The collection available at Tomo & Edie are the cutest we've ever seen.

Each hair accessory is hand-crafted from vintage Japanese silk kimono. And each is shaped as "ume" or Japanese plum blossoms.
Choose from barrettes, bobby pins, mini clips or hair ties.

The mini clips (first pic) are $9 each. Or start a collection of ume bobby pins, $8 each.

We also like Tomo & Edie's barrettes, each featuring three ume blossoms in varied vintage fabric. Each is $16.

Thank you! Now I know what my daughter is wearing in her hair on New Year's Day in Tokyo. But at these prices, I'm buying one, hiding it, and not whipping it out until 30 seconds before we leave for the shrine. I have my doubts it will still be in her hair by the time we get back.
http://lovetocrochetandknit.blogspot.com/2006/07/flower-pin-cushion.html is one of the many tutorials on how to make a pin cushion that looks like one of those flowers. Just make a super mini one and glue or sew it on to a barrette. The vintage fabric they used is super cool though.
I bought a hair pin just like this in the Pearl River store when I was in New York. It was much cheaper there from what I remember.
