Name: Tom (3 months)
Location: Haarlem area, The Netherlands
Tom's room used to be his sister's. Not knowing the gender we decided to choose the unisex approach in decorating and furnishing.
We did not want a typical nursery but a more ageless feeling to it. It is a mix of (personal) vintage things like my first shoes, my yellow seventies baby blanket and new pieces. The handmade elephant was a gift when Tom was born by sweet friends.
Most of the stuff is from IKEA (LACK book shelf, PS Cabinet, rocking moose, red glass lamps and the one hanging from the ceiling) and the crib and big white dresser are from Prenatal. The silver paint on the wall is a beautiful metallic grey by Histor (a Dutch paint brand).
Lovely - thanks Kirsten!

Very cool! I love this design aesthetic, but it seems a little "sterile" for a nursery... A rug would help soften it up!
Well done, but feels a little cold to me.
I think the pops of red make the nursery warm. And that moose rocker is amazing! Where did you find it?
We did not plan to buy one but we had to have it while walking by at IKEA. http://www.ikea.com/nl/nl/catalog/products/50060713/
Actually it was one of the first items we bought and because of the happy red we decided add some red to the room. Tom and Roos still love to play with it.
With this afternoon fall light it does look kind of ’sterile’ but at night with the little lamps lit on the cabinet it feels warm and cosy. I happen to look for a rug a while ago with winter coming, not sure if were buying yet.
It would be interesting to do a poll and ask people to choose which rooms look sterile or cold to them. Some of the most decorated nurseries feel sterile to me because everything is so perfectly staged that it doesn't seem like a real child would be welcome there. (Not that I don't love looking at them anyway!)
This room feels cozy and warm to me because of all the sweet little touches - the hanging fish, the happy teddy bear in the corner, the bunnies on the shelf, and of course all the pops of red!
I really love the clean gray and silver tones - and I bet the children look beautiful playing against that crisp backdrop!
Thanks so much for sharing, Kirsten!
I love the color scheme
^So agree with you kellystokes!
love it. the joy comes from the people in a space, not the space itself. not that there's anything wrong with the space.
Nice room, something different. I love the fresh red. And really cool, the little boy will "grow into the room" I think it will only get better. May be for now, a sheepskin on the floor and a splash of color on the changing cushion (kitsch kitchen has nice ones) make it more babylike. I was wondering where you got the little wooden houses from, which are displayed next to the wooden train. Thank you.
@MissRight Thank you for your compliment. I can’t remember were we bought the birdhouses but you can buy them online as well. They are called ’Build your own birdhouse’. I googled them and found one site that sells them (but for a higher price that we paid) http://www.funky-friday.com/funky-1/bouwpakket-bouw-je-eigen-vogelhuis.html#.UIKNXHiJIxI
I noticed today that Tom’s age is wrong. He is 13 months, so not a small baby anymore.
The IKEA sheepskin is high on my list to buy! good tip, thank you
Looks great and I love the window treatments. Can you please let me know where you found them? Thanks!
Love. Great contrast in color which is what babies respond to.
@catherinenyc Theyare from a dutch store called Karwei. Similar roller blinds can be found at IKEA; http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/40221274/
