After spending what felt like months looking for a decent quality wallet, I was so relieved to come across Tony Perotti's green collection. I had no idea how difficult it would be to find a wallet that is ethically manufactured, functional, and durable. Lucky for me, these designs are affordable, great quality, and manufactured with vegetable-based tanning methods. Learn more about some of his green manufacturing methods after the jump!

Perotti works in association with Vera Pelle tanneries, who practice the ancient technique of vegetable-tanning.

Unfortunately, leather can be an extremely toxic material to manufacture. Many tanneries are located in third world countries, and utilize methods that are not safe for the employees who work there, or for the environment. Some of the chemicals used are proven to be carcinogens, and often result in medical issues for workers.

Vera Pelle on the other hand, takes extra precautions when it comes to the safety of employees, and the environmental sensitivity of their processes. Their leather is first rotated on large wooden drums, where it is softened and enriched with natural treatments from plant extracts and olive oils.
