Apartment Therapy reader Tony Giunta Jr. specializes in custom cabinetry and furniture, so it's no surprise he would decide to take his skills and apply them to his own home office, effectively hiding all the tech elements, but making them easily accessible through a series of built-in features...
I wanted to send you some pics of a custom home office I designed and built for myself about 6 years ago. The concept was to be as free of desktop wires and clutter as possible, and a integrated sound system helped to achieve that. The Left and Right speaker enclosure shape were inspired by the Mac Mini.
This [setup] has a 2.1 channel sound system with a down firing subwoofer and power amp mounted to the underside of my corner desktop where it is hidden. I worked with a audio engineer for the speaker driver selection and cross over design. The result was better than my expectation and the sound sitting at the desk is incredible. Also there are two personal media i.e. iPod, iPhone built-in charging stations. With wireless mouse and keyboard and built-in speakers the desktop stays clear of clutter.
I knew built-in electronics in furniture would eventually come to main market re IKEA's new line.
Thanks for sharing, Tony!
