We're planners, a trait evolved over years of bad, expensive mistakes. So now, before we buy a single gallon of paint or stick of furniture, we sit down with a pen and paper and draw up a wish list of everything we think we want, from furniture to knick-knacks. Then we gather up catalogs and magazines. This is where the fun begins. Nothing's safe from us as we start mercilessly ripping out pages, collecting fabric scraps, paint chips and pictures. We prowl the aisles of our favorite stores; we take a covetous look at our friend's homes. We gather everything into a simple tray or book, one for each room we're redoing. Some people use the bookmark feature on their computer but we're tactile; we like pictures, paint chips, fabric scraps that we can lay out all over our floor and divide into piles. Spread out before us, we start to get an idea of how things fit together, what ideas we're consistently drawn to, what colors we like. It's only then that we set out to make our dreams turn into a reality. Have you started your dream book yet?
