Top Local Fabric Resources

Back before AT:Chicago was born, Emily wrote to AT:NY asking this question - it was passed on to us and we just found it digging through our old folders: Can one of the new Chicago writers do some research for us in Chicago and find out if there's some kind of fabric warehouse in the city or suburbs that has good remnants, etc.? Our guest post at the time featured Vogue Fabrics, but of course the list is much longer than that. An entire area worth checking out is the stretch of sari and fabric shops on Devon Avenue, the hub of the city’s Indian and Pakistani community. Head further west to find Troy Corporation, a 70,000 square foot warehouse that prides itself on remnants. Here’s a varied local list of those and other fabric locations: Vogue Fabrics 718-32 Main St. Evanston Vogue Fabrics 623 W. Roosevelt Rd. Chicago Troy Corporation 2701 N. Normandy Ave. Chicago Chicago Fabric Yarn and Buttons 64 E. Monroe Chicago (near the Art Institute) Fishman’s Fabrics 1101 S. Desplaines Chicago Hancock Fabrics 6101 N. Broadway Chicago Chicago Fashion and Fabric 2331 W. Devon Chicago Anyone else have great suggestions??
