There were some happy designers wandering around after the winners of Dwell's first-ever Modern World Awards were announced. Dwell on Design attendees got to check out the magazine's 25 finalists for the contest, staged against a plywood backdrop. The objects, which ranged from a bike rack to a classic chair, all had winning style, but only five took home a trophy.
The categories were Work, Eat, Live, Create, and Play. The winners, who walked away with a cherry wood award block by House Industries, are:
Work: 111 Navy Chair by Emeco
Eat: FYRKAT Picnic Charcoal Grill by Bodum.
Live: Mangas Rug by Patricia Urquiola for Gan.
Create: Softwall by Molo Design.
Play: Bike Shelf by Chris Brigham for Knife & Saw.
Knife & Saws awesome bike shelf also took the People's Choice award.
My personal favorite, which wins in my new category "Want," was the woolly scarf-like Mangas Rug.

How fun, including that Mangas is the Spanish word for Sleeves, and the rugs look like giant sweater sleeves!
