So, I keep hearing how it's a tough real estate market. Everyone is looking for a deal and supposedly it's those extra amenities that might be exactly what's needed to make it happen. I'm thinking hardwood floors or carrera countertops, but there are some super OTT homes out there that truly hit home the concept of one person's idea of a perk being another one's nightmare - either way, they are absolutely always fun to take a peek at...
C'mon - a swimming pool in the living room? Pirate themed movie theater? Why think small? Here is a full water park in the backyard! Let's go:

Extreme excess is an ugly thing.
The first house is far too cluttered for my taste, and I think it would be very inconvenient to have to walk around the pool all the time instead of through the room. Also, it would be a nightmare for anyone with small kids.
The pirate movie theater looks well done, but I think they'll get tired of it in a few years (or the kids will outgrow the pirate fad) and they'll want to redo it. That just seems wasteful. People are entitled to spend their money as they wish, of course.
Leather upholstery in a room with a pool?? The humidity would make it mold, wouldn't it???
Love the pirate theater (and I am FAR from a kid) -- I think fans of the theme park look, no matter how kitsch others consider it, might like it for a long time. (I would never bother to go to that extreme, even if I DID have the money and wanted to support a large portion of the construction and design community for the duration of the build... ) (Which I certainly don't!)
The water park using up the island's fresh water supply, though -- that's just narcissistic in the extreme.
"Please don't cannonball into the pool! You'll get the furniture wet!" 8^O
i think excess when so many are suffering would be something I would personally feel guilty about. However, if I were a celebrity and it was extremely difficult for me to go anywhere public with my family, I could see myself really enjoying a water park in the back yard!
That is a great point, 'sweethomesweet'.
That living room swimming pool reminds me of the dangerous stairs in this lileks.com post, which always cracks me up. http://www.lileks.com/institute/interiors/BHG/chpt7/index.html
All I can think about is the chlorine smell in that entire living room/home.
When we were house hunting a few years back, we looked at a place that had a pool between the kitchen and the living room. Not as big as the picture, above, though. It was gross: the house stank of chlorine and the humidity was like the hot house at the botanical garden (without all the nice plants). No thanks!
I picture me fumbling around in the dark looking for the light switch - KERSPLASH! Maybe I'm a bad match for a swimming pool in the living room...
um, the pirate themed house... i'm pretty sure that those are 3d renderings and not real photos...
Is that the Chenery Mansion in SF?
